“…RBQ methodology is one of the most commonly used tools in fisheries science for prospects and constraint analysis [17,18,19]. In the present study, parameters like high demand with a RBQ score of 95.33% is ranked I, followed by high market value with a RBQ score of 94.67% and a high return (BCR) with a RBQ score of 74.00%, as per the perception of farmers in Barpeta district.…”

“…In addition to the prospects, aquaculture of indigenous fishes do come with certain constraints and both these aspects need to be identified for sustaining the growth of the sector. Farmers' and fishers' perception has been used by numerous researchers [18,24,25] to identify the prospects and constraints associated with different aspects of fisheries and aquaculture to arrive at meaningful conclusions.Vignesh et al [17] studied the constraints associated with Indian major carp seed farmers of Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu and reported that farmers encountered a primary constraint of insufficient availability of high-quality carp seeds, with subsequent challenges including a shortage of water supply and the elevated cost of supplementary feed. These various constraints are negatively impacting farmers, hindering their ability to achieve anticipated fish yields and income.…”

“…In addition, the inclusion of these indigenous species in composite systems can improve the nutritional security and add to the income enhancement of farm families as they fetch higher market prices (Debnath et al, 2014). Policy makers worldwide have been emphasizing the utilization of smaller water bodies for aquaculture because they are largely underutilized and, if properly managed, can be a source of nutrition and income for farmers (Debbarma et al, 2020). In the present work, 150 fingerlings of Labeorohita, Catlacatla, and Barbonymus gonionatus were stocked in a pond of size 150 m 2 along with 2 kg of SRS like Mola and Puti.…”

“…Patilkhede et al (2018) [17] reported that inefficient execution & implementation of government programs, government grants not being properly distributed, lack of package of fish production, no training facilities, no timely information about the fish catch, inadequate resources, and infrastructural facilities were the main constraints in sustainable livelihood activities of fisherman of Konkan region of Maharashtra. Debbarma et al (2019) [5] found constraints faced by tribal fishers of Tripura as inefficient implementation, delayed departmental proceedings, lack of timeliness in providing inputs, lack of coordination with the DoF staff, poor seed quality, transportation problems, improper selection of beneficiary and political influence. Yadav (2022) [32][33] reported that administrative constraints had a very high severity such as delay in sanction of scheme by fisheries organizations, less supervision by officials and improper coordination between fisheries institutions.…”
