Standardized nursing languages (SNLs) are crucial for nursing documentation, yet their usage varies and depends on several factors. This study aims to investigate the perception and other influences on SNL use among Nigerian nurses. A cross-sectional survey employing a questionnaire was utilized to survey 310 nurses from two Nigerian hospitals: The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) and General Hospital Calabar (GHC). Despite 92.58% of nurses having a positive perception (average score of 30.2 out of 40), the study revealed low SNL utilization (t = -50.01, df = 309; p < 0.05). Additionally, SNL perception and utilization showed no significant statistical relationship among nurses (N = 310, r = -0.07, p > 0.05). Barriers to SNL use included nurse-related factors (lack of time, p = 0.034; lack of mentor, p < 0.000) and institution-related factors (lack of material, p = 0.011; lack of SNL policies, p = 0.001; training, p = 0.105; sufficient staff, p = 0.001). Low SNL utilization, despite positive perception, stemmed from personal and institutional factors. Both parties should enhance SNL use by organizing seminars, formulating policies, introducing electronic documentation, participating in training and conferences, and seeking mentorship.

Documentation instrument for quality nursing care according to standards. However, there is no instrument for nursing care for patients installing ventilators according to Indonesian nursing standards. This research aims to develop a 3S-based nursing care instrument (SDKI, SLKI, SIKI) for ventilator patients. The research design is Research and Development carried out in 2 stages. The first phase population is 100 nursing care. The first stage was FGD 1, divided into 3 groups, namely 10 executive nurses, 6 nursing management staff, and 1 expert. The second stage population was 5 nurses. The second stage was carried out FGD 2 with participants from 6 levels of nursing management. The sample used in this research was purposive sampling. The design developed is an instrument for documenting nursing care for ventilator patients. The analysis uses the CVI and KR20 tests. Results: Evaluation of nursing care instruments shows that aspects of nursing outcomes, implementation, and evaluation are not by standards. Instrument development consists of 5 main problems that often arise in ventilator patients. The I-CVI result is ≥ 0.78, which is interpreted as valid. The KR result is > 0.6, which means it is reliable. The recommendation from the research results is that the development of nursing care instruments can be applied in treating patients with ventilators. Conclusion: The development of a nursing care instrument was declared to be valid and reliable in categories in terms of functionality, efficiency, and usability, so it is recommended that nurses use it to improve the quality of hospital services.

Background: Effective communication in healthcare is crucial, and Standardized Nursing Language (SNL) has emerged as a powerful tool to enhance nursing practice and documentation. However, disparities in SNL awareness and knowledge pose challenges to its effective implementation. This systematic review aims to synthesize research on SNL application in nursing practice across diverse settings, utilizing a comprehensive database search and predefined criteria for study selection. Methods: Comprehensive searches were conducted across databases like PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and Web of Science. This systematic review adhered to the updated guidelines provided by PRISMA 2020. Three independent reviewers assessed study eligibility based on predefined criteria, resolving discrepancies through discussion. A narrative synthesis approach categorized and thematically analyzed the data, focusing on SNL's impact in diverse healthcare settings. Data was retrieved after the studies were subjected to quality assessment and risk of biases. Results: The review included twelve studies spanning various healthcare systems and regions. While SNL demonstrated potential benefits, disparities in awareness, knowledge, and utilization were evident among participants. Challenges such as complex documentation processes and feasibility concerns were raised. Conclusion: SNL plays a pivotal role in enhancing nursing practice, improving documentation, and facilitating effective communication. Addressing education gaps and providing ongoing training opportunities are essential to overcome implementation challenges. Collaboration among healthcare institutions, educators, and regulatory bodies is crucial to fully leveraging SNL's benefits for better patient care and healthcare outcomes.
