Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is used as a medicinal plant or seasoning, but its national production can only meet people's needs by 6.4%, and 95% is imported from China. The development rate of new garlic varieties is relatively slow because garlic is generally propagated vegetatively through cloves; therefore, its diversity has become relatively narrow. Character and diversity can be improved by inducing mutations using gamma-ray irradiation. Experiments on garlic subjected to gamma-ray irradiation have shown physiological changes in the putative 3rd (MV3) mutant offspring. The experiment's 4th mutant progeny (MV4) was re-planted and compared with other local genotypes. The aim was to perform clustering based on the yielding characteristics and the intensity of the anthocyanin content. The experiment used a single-plant design with 21 experimental units, namely 16 MV4 genotypes and 5 control genotypes. The analysis of variance showed that the MV4 Lumbu Kuning 1 Gy and Ciwidey 2 Gy genotypes had better tuber weight and diameter than the other genotypes, including the control genotypes. Cluster analysis clustered garlic genotypes into five groups at a cophenetic distance 0.4. Principal component analysis (PCA) also divided the garlic genotypes into four quadrants. Genotypes in quadrant 2 had anthocyanin content intensities superior to those of other genotypes.

Tanaman dan bagian-bagiannya merupakan media pembawa organisme pengganggu tumbuhan (OPT) pada proses karantina tanaman dalam kegiatan pengiriman ekspor maupun impor ataupun pengiriman dari suatu wilayah ke wilayah lain di dalam negeri. OPT adalah semua organisme yang dapat menyebabkan dan menimbulkan kerusakan fisik, gangguan fisiologi dan biokimia, atau kompetisi hara terhadap tanaman budidaya. Salah satu jenis OPT pada tanaman yaitu virus dengan mekanisme penularan secara mekanis melalui organ vegetatif maupun melalui perantara vektor. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeteksi virus pada media pembawa (tanamana) yaitu bawang merah (Allium ascalonicum) dan bawang putih (A. sativum) yang merupakan komoditi pertanian penting. Metode yang digunakan yaitu uji serologi dengan metode DAS ELISA untuk mendeteksi keberadaan salah satu jenis virus dengan tingkat infeksi yang cukup tinggi pada tanaman bawang yaitu Onion yellow dwarf virus (OYDV). Hasil yang diperoleh dari kedua sampel bawang yaitu bahwa kedua jeni bawang, baik itu bawang merah maupun bawang putih negatif terinfeksi OYDV berdasarkan metode ELISA yang ditunjukkan dengan nilai absorbansi sampel tidak mencapai tiga kali lipat dari nilai absorbansi kontrol negatif serta tidak terjadi perubahan warna pada sumur sampel di microplate.

Most of Indonesia’s garlic needs are fulfilled by imported (97%). The government focuses on local garlic for seed prospects and gives a mandatory for importers to plant it to increase domestic production. Beside of using registered local varieties, it is also intended for local varieties which have not been registered, to be developed especially by local farmers. Exploration and characterization are very necessary so that the presence of local varieties of garlic in each region is known. This study aims to explore and characterize the local garlics in Central Sulawesi. The research was carried out in March 2020, located in Parigi Moutong Regency. The research used survey method, while the observations of plant morphology and agronomy using a Horticultural Plant Characterization Guidebook. The research found a local variety of garlic namely Tinombo Variety. Apart from being a cooking spice, Tinombo variety also used as a biopharmaceutical. The result of the characterization shows that Tinombo variety has light green leaf color, pale yellow flesh color, very sharp aroma, 14-21 cloves per bulb, 2-3 t/ha production while the yield potential is 7.6 t/ha. The harvest age is 5-6 months, and it is suitable in the highlands. The obstacle for farmers is the difficulty of the access to and from the field, thus the price of garlic is expensive. The cultivation technology is still conventional and does not use fertilizers. This local variety has a high chance to increase its productivity with the application of appropriate and site-specific technologies.
