Peningkatan Mutu Kertas Daur Ulang Menggunakan Xylan ( Improvement Quality of Recycled Fiber Using Xylan )

Abstract: Corncob as agricultural waste is a potential source of xylan to be used as an additive to increase the paper strength sheets originating from old corrugated cardboard (OCC). The aim of this research is to know increasing of strength properties from recycled fiber after addition of corncob xylan, compared to the commercial xylan. The xylan extraction was carried out by acid and the addition of xylan to the fiber was carried out at 80 ºC for 30 minutes. The results showed that the use of corncob xylan 5% (w/w) c… Show more

“…Both hemicellulose monomers can only dissolve in alkaline solvents with high concentrations [8]. Overall the xylan obtained is white, thus indicating that the xylan produced is in accordance with research conducted by Wirawan, et al [7] that the xylan from corncobs was white.…”

“…According to Ayunda., et al (2013) in Nurhidayah (2017) [9] tensile resistance is directly proportional to density, meaning that the higher the density will be followed by high tensile strength, for that pressing factor is very influential in increasing the value of paper tensile strength, wherein this study the variables neglected pressure. The results are obtained in accordance with previous research which states that the addition of xylan can increase the number of bonding networks between fibres which ultimately increases the strength of the sheet [3,7].…”
