Postharvest pests are the biggest problem during storage, so it is necessary to monitor for control measures. This study aims to monitor the population using two systems of monitoring methods. This research was conducted in three regencies where Bulogs rice was stored. The monitoring using namely direct and indirect method. Direct monitoring was carried out by determining five sample points diagonally, each sample point measuring 1×1 m and then directly monitoring all of the insects pest found. While indirect monitoring were carried out by taking samples using a probe with three times at each sample point and the collected rice was weighed as much as 300 grams and then count the population in the rice. Monitoring were made on comodities that had been fumigated for two months. The results showed that the highest population of postharvest pests was found in the direct visual monitoring method and the pests with the highest population was Cryptolestes, then Tribolium, and the lowest was Rhyzopertha.

Medicinal plants have been developing as the main material for botanical pesticides. Many medicinal plants can be used as botanical pesticides due to their effectiveness in controlling the pest. This study aims to examine the potential of Eucalyptus citriodora and Artemisia vulgaris against Sitophilus zeamais, which can be used to control the storage pest using these plants without using synthetic pesticide. This study was conducted in the pest laboratory, Indonesian Spice and Medicinal Crops Research Institute (ISMCRI), from January to February 2021. The formula of two essential oils of E. citriodora and A. vulgaris with different concentrations (1.5%, 2%, 2.5%, and 3%) were used to control S. zeamais. The result showed that the A. vulgaris had the most potent efficiency as a botanical pesticide against S. zeamais. The highest mortality values of imago S. zeamais at 72 hours after applying E. citriodora and A. vulgaris were 90% and 93%, respectively. Artemisia vulgaris has the highest reaching repellent percentage of imago S. zeamais its 85% at 1 hour after application for 3% concentration. Indicates that essential oils, E. citriodora, and A. vulgaris, possess insecticidal activity against S. zeamais.

Bemisia tabaci is one of the red chili pests that plays a role as a Begomovirus vector. This vector can be controlled through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. One of the potential practices is by utilizing corn as a barrier crop to prevent the vector from attacking the main crop. The aim of this research was to examine the repellence activity of the volatile compound obtained from various ages of corn crop against B. tabaci. The volatile compound was collected from the corns at 4 week after planting (WAP), 6 WAP, 8 WAP, 10 WAP, and 12 WAP. Volatile compound capture device was designed with two solvents, i.e. hexane and ethanol, then the volatile compound analyzed by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). B. tabaci repellency against volatile compound was examined using Y-tube olfactometer. Each treatment was employed with 5 replications. Data were analyzed using ANOVA with 95% and further analyzed by Least Significant Different (LSD). The parameter observed was the total of B. tabaci avoided the volatile compound tested until half of the control olfactometer arm. The results showed that all ages of the corn produced repellent compound and the most optimal were corn aged 12 WAP with repellency rate of 83.72%. GC-MS analysis identified the volatile compound were citronella, limonene, β-phellandrene, β-caryophyllene, 1.8 cineole, farnesol, caryophyllene, and patchouli alcohol.
