Background: Occupational air pollution exposure in textiles industry which irritates the respiration system triggers the disturbance of the nasal mucosa. IL-6 is produced by monocytes and macrophages as a response for tissue damage. SOD-3 is extracellular enzymes protected the tissue from free radical and chronic inflammation. Objectives: To know if the occupational air pollution affects the increasing of IL-6 and SOD-3 level on nasal wash. Methods: this study used an analytical observational design with cross-sectional method. It was conducted on 40 male workers of garment industry in Bawen, Semarang, Indonesia. Divided into two groups: the dyeing and sizing area with 20 workers each group. The workers exposed to the occupational air pollutant for 5 years or more. The aquabidest will be injected to subject's nosetril using the 20cc spuit. The nasal wash's sample on the 1.5ml eppendorf tubes will be examined using ELISA method to determine the IL-6 and SOD-3 level. The occupational air pollution indicators will be measured by Envilab Semarang. Findings : The measurements of direct PM10 and PM2.5 in dyeing and sizing area were higher than the regulatory limit. There was a significant difference in the IL-6 level in dyeing and sizing area (p=0,010). There was no significant difference in the SOD-3 level in dyeing and sizing area (p=0,443). There was a positive, moderate and significant correlation between IL-6 and SOD-3 in dyeing and sizing area (r=0.320). Conclusion: The study concluded that the occupational air pollution especially the PM10 and PM2.5 affects the IL-6 and SOD-3 level in the textile industry workers' nasal wash. There is a significant correlation between the IL-6 and SOD-3 level in textile industry workers at dyeing and sizing area. There is a difference in the IL-6 level in dyeing and sizing area. But there is no significant in the SOD-3 level in dyeing and sizing area. The higher occupational air pollution inhaled will be compensated with the higher expression of IL-6 and SOD-3. The higher exposure of PM2.5 in the dyeing area results in the higher level of IL-6 and SOD-3.

Surabaya City, especially the western area of Surabaya, is utilized for industrial space, warehousing, final disposal sites (FDS), and port areas. Activities in these areas produce emissions, particularly PM2.5 (particulate matter smaller than 2.5 µm) and PM10 (particulate matter smaller than 10 µm). PM2.5 and PM2.5−10 contain metals and can cause respiratory disorders and death. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the concentrations of PM2.5 and PM2.5−10 and the heavy metals contained in the PMs. Sampling for PM2.5 and PM2.5−10 was conducted using a Gent Stacked Filter Unit (Gent SFU) every six (6) days between October 2019–April 2020. The samples were then analyzed using gravimetry to determine mass concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 and analyzed using XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) to determine the elements contained within PM2.5 and PM2.5−10 and their concentrations. The elemental concentrations were used as Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) inputs to identify potential pollutant sources. The results of the PMF analysis were then used to determine the source locations of pollutants by using a Conditional Probability Function (CPF). The observed concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 are 11.47 µg/m3 and 27.49 µg/m3, or 11.45 µg/Nm3 and 26.98 µg/Nm3. 18 elements are identified in the PM, namely Na, Mg, Al, Si, S, K, Cl, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Br, and Pb. Potential sources of PM2.5 pollutants are a combination of Cu industries, biomass burning, Ni industries, non-ferrous metal industries, transportation activities, iron and steel industries, construction activities, dust, port activities, and Pb industries. Potential sources of PM2.5−10 pollutants are construction activities, dust, transportation activities, non- ferrous metals industries, and Ni industries. The estimated source locations of the pollutants contributing to PM2.5 and PM2.5−10 are spread out from north to southwest. Based on this analysis, the concentrations of PM2.5, PM2.5−10, and metal elements met air quality standards.

PT Intimkara kelurahan tubo merupakan pabrik pembuatan material yang berbahan dasar semen dan pasir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh PM 10 terhadap gangguan kesehatan. Desain penelitian ini adalah analisis dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Data diambil dengan pengukuran langsung dilapangan dan observasi selama 24 jam. Populasi subyek penelitian ini adalah seluruh pekerja (8) di PT Intimkara dan 8 masyarakat yang tidak terpapar debu di PT intimcara yang diambil secara random. sedangkan populasi objek adalah udara ambien di PT Intimkara. Sampel subyek yaitu 8 reponden grup control dan 8 responden grup kasus sedangkan sampel objek adalah 5 titik lokasi sampling. Pengumpulan data gangguan kesehatan dilakukan dengan wawancara sedangkan konsentrasi PM10 dilakukan dengan cara pengukuran. Pengukuran kelembaban dan suhu dilakukan dengan menggunakan hygrometer. Analisis data pengaruh dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis regresi binary logistik. Konsentrasi PM10 selama 24 jam adalah 33µg/m3. Dari data analisis diketahui bahwa batuk berdahak terhadap nilai PM 10 memiliki nilai p sebesar 0.007 < 0.05, sementara nyeri dada terhadap nilai p sebesar 0.552>0,05 dan sesak napas terhadap nilai PM 10 memiliki nilai p sebesar 0.039<0.05. Disimpulkan bahwa PM 10 mempengaruhi kejadian, batuk berdahak dan sesak napas sementara PM 10 tidak mempengaruhi nyeri dada.
