Spirulina platensishas been well-known as an abundant protein and phycocyanin. Spirulina platensis has the effect of anti-inflammatory, so it is widely used to apply cosmetics and biomedicine in the healing process of wounds. To prove that the administration of an extract ofSpirulina platensiscan increase the number of fibroblasts and accelerate the wound healing process in Wistar rats with an incision on their skin. This study used a randomizedpost-test only control group design. The skins of thirty (30) male Wistar rats were incised. This treatment was divided into 4 groups, namely the group that received the 0,1% cream (X1) of S.platensisextract, and the group that was administered with the 0,1% ointment (X2) of S.platensis extract; the negative control group was only treated by a saline solution (C1), and the positive control group was with the administration of Gentamycin 0,1% ointment (C2). The total numbers of fibroblasts were examined on day 14 and calculated using the method of tissue biopsy and hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. The wound was checked after 14-day Data analysis was performed with a one-wayANOVA test and was continued by Post Hoc Test LSD. The total numbers of fibroblasts on day 14 from the group of XI, X2, C1, and C2 were 15.00; 17,50; 3,83, 10,33 with p<0.001. The average size of the wounds on day 14 from the groups of X1, X2, C1, and C2 was 551,78; 435,76; 1795,95; 1193,57 with p<0.001, respectively. PostHoc Testresults on the total number of fibroblasts and extensive wound area showed significant differences between them. Administration of the 0.1% ointment of Spirulina platensisextract believed to potentially increasing the number of fibroblasts and accelerate the process of wound healing.

Introduction:Oral ulcer lesions are one of the most common lesions in the oral cavity. The prevalence of traumatic ulcers is quite high compared to other oral lesions. Brown algae, Sargassum sp. is one of the algae contains flavonoids, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, and calcium, which play a role in wound healing and has economic value. This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of Sargassum sp. ethanolic extract on traumatic ulcers healing in the labial mucosa of Wistar strain (Rattus norvegicus). Methods: 28 Wistar strain (Rattus norvegicus) weighed 150-200 grams. The samples were divided into 4 groups (K1, K2, P1, P2); each group consisted of 7 mice. K1 group was administered with Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC), K2 was administered with 0.2% hyaluronic acid gel, P1 was administered with 50% Sargassum sp. extract gel, and P2 was administered with 75% Sargassum sp. extract gel. In each group, the ulcer was made on the mice labial mucosa; then the ulcer diameter was measured and observed on day 1 and day 7. Results: The mean diameter ± standard deviation of traumatic ulcer calculations were K1 (1.09 ± 0.40), K2 (1.81 ± 0.67), P1 (1.39 ± 0.43) and P2 (2.16 ± 0.49) respectively. One way ANOVA test results showed significant differences in K1, K2, P1, and P2 groups. Conclusion: Ethanol extract of Sargassum sp. is effective in accelerating the traumatic ulcers healing at the concentration of 75%.

AbstrakBerbagai penelitian ilmiah telah membuktikan bahwa kolagen merupakan biomaterial ideal dalam aktivitas penyembuhan luka. Senyawa bioaktif pada madu dan Aloe vera dapat membantu meningkatkan pembentukan kolagen. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk membandingkan pengaruh aplikasi topikal madu, gel Aloe vera, dan Moist Exposed Burn Ointment (MEBO) terhadap kepadatan kolagen pada proses penyembuhan luka bakar derajat dua pada tikus. Luka bakar dibuat pada 28 ekor tikus dan dibagi menjadi empat kelompok yang dipilih secara acak serta dilakukan aplikasi topikal harian dengan NaCl, madu, gel Aloe vera, dan MEBO secara berurutan. Biopsi kulit dilakukan pada hari ke-7, kemudian dilakukan pembuatan sediaan histopatologi kulit dan dihitung kepadatan kolagennya. Uji One Way ANOVA menunjukkan kepadatan kolagen berbeda secara signifikan antar masing-masing kelompok (p= 0,009). Uji Post Hoc Bonferroni menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok NaCl dengan madu (p= 0,024) dan NaCl dengan MEBO (p= 0,024). Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi madu dan MEBO secara topikal pada luka bakar derajat dua dapat meningkatkan pembentukan kolagen, sehingga dapat mempercepat proses penyembuhan luka. Madu, Aloe vera, dan MEBO dapat dijadikan sebagai terapi alternatif dalam penyembuhan luka bakar. AbstractVarious scientific studies have proven that collagen is an ideal biomaterial in wound healing activities. The bioactive compounds in honey and Aloe vera can help increase collagen formation. This study was conducted to compare the effect of topical application of honey, Aloe vera gel, and MEBO (Moist Exposed Burn Ointment) on collagen density in the healing process of second-degree burns in rats. Burns were made on 28 rats which were further randomly divided into four groups to receive daily topical application of NaCl, Aloe vera, honey, and MEBO respectively. Skin biopsy was carried out on the seventh day, then histopathological preparation of the skin was made and collagen density was calculated. Result of One Way ANOVA test showed that collagen density differed significantly between groups (p= 0.009). The Post Hoc Bonferroni test resulted in significant difference between NaCl with honey group (p= 0.024) and NaCl with MEBO (p= 0.024). This study found that topical application of honey and MEBO to second-degree burns could increase collagen formation, thus accelerating wound healing process. Honey, Aloe vera, and MEBO can be used as alternative therapies for healing burns.
