PEBA/PSf Multilayer Composite Membranes for CO2 Separation: Influence of Dip Coating Parameters

Abstract: Polyether block amide (PEBA) polymeric layers were prepared on polysulfone (PSf) supports via dip coating. The effects of the coating speed and the solution concentration on the membrane performance were studied. The membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectra, and gas permeation. The coating speed was adjusted in the range of 0.32–0.48 cm s−1 at a solution concentration of 3 wt % to obtain suitable membranes so that the CO2 permeance and the CO2/N2 selectiv… Show more

“…In spite of the different nature of each segment, it can be seen that the bands appear at the same wavenumber values. Regarding the hard segments (PA6, PA11 and PA12), the band at 1640 cm − 1 corresponds to the vibrations of the H-N-C--O group [40], and the band at 3298 cm − 1 to the -N-H-linkages [36]. Vibrations corresponding to the soft segments (PEO and PTMO) are visible in the bands at 2925 and 1100 cm − 1 , assigned to the stretching and bending vibrations of the aliphatic C-H group and the stretching vibration of the C-O-C ether group, respectively, in accordance with the literature [41,42].…”

“…Figure 3 C,D show the characteristic bands in FTIR-ATR corresponding to ZIF-8 at 1583 cm −1 for the C=N bond and at 1149 and 995 cm −1 for the C-N bond [ 35 ]. Regarding Pebax ® 3533, it has characteristic bands at 1639 cm −1 (the vibration of the H-N-C=O group), 2935 cm −1 (the bending of the C-H aliphatic chain) and 1101 cm −1 (the C-O-C ether group) [ 36 , 37 , 38 ]. In the membrane in which ZIF-8 was synthesized, some of the characteristic peaks of ZIF-8 can be observed, which were mostly preserved when the Pebax layer was deposited.…”

“…Aside from these small‐molecule additives mentioned above, polymeric materials also can be applied to prepare PMMMs. The Kojabad group [ 92 ] fabricated Pebax 1657/polysulfone (PSf) composite membranes via dip‐coating method. The influence of the solution concentration and coating speed on the performance of the composite membranes were investigated.…”
