Peaches phenology and production submitted to foliar nitrogen fertilizer and calcium nitrate

Abstract: Choosing cultivars that require less chilling temperatures to overcome dormancy is crucial, for example, peaches that grow in subtropical areas, which is not an appropriate climate for them. Thus, alternative techniques are necessary to induce sprouting. Yet there are not many available products in market, restricting options for fruit growers to a reduced number of chemical molecules, which are often harm the health to applicators. Therefore, this study aimed to assess phenological cycles and productive perfo… Show more

“…In recent years, many agrochemical treatments have been performed in warm areas in order to shorten endodormancy and advance flowering time ( Ardiles and Ayala, 2017 ; Rodrigo et al, 2017 ; Ferreira et al, 2019 ). This practice presents significant problems, however, owing to a lack of knowledge about the efficiency of the treatments and the optimal concentrations and application times for distinct species and cultivars ( Ionescu et al, 2017a ; Rodrigo et al, 2017 ; Pasa et al, 2018 ).…”

“…Most of these agrochemicals contain high concentrations of nitrogen from nitrite salts and amino acids ( Table 1 ). Among these agrochemicals, the most popular are Erger ® + Activ Erger ® and Syncron ® + NitroActive ® ( Rodrigo et al, 2017 ; Ferreira et al, 2019 ). However, new agrochemicals with similar formulas have also been used to a lesser extent, such as Bluprins ® + Bluact ® , Kiplant HB15 ® + Kiplant Inducer ® , Siberio ® + Siberion ® and W-Uniformity Superplus ® ( Tavares et al, 2018 ; Table 1 ).…”

“…The HC has stood out due to its expressive outcomes allowing better performance to overcome dormancy (Souza et al, 2021) and HC 0.6% is widely used by peaches growers in subtropical regions of São Paulo state, Brazil (Ferreira et al, 2019). However, despite these most evident results, this chemical has been shown a rather toxicity to the repeated exposure by applicators (Hernández and Craig, 2016).…”

“…This situation raised a necessity to find alternative chemicals to HC to be used in subtropical climate regions, such as NF (Erger®) (Hawerroth et al, 2009;Segantini et al, 2015;Ímrak et al, 2016) and potassium and CN (Seif El-Yazal et al, 2014;Michailidis et al, 2021). Ferreira et al (2019) in preliminaries studies with peach cultivars associated with different concentrations of NF and CN, concluded that NF (2.5%) + CN (4%) provided wider sprouting, flowering and fruit production. These compounds stimulate bud emergence and flowering in the branches, standardizes the phenological stages and increases production efficiency.…”
