PDMS/PVDF microporous membrane with semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks for vacuum membrane distillation

Abstract: In this article, using the non‐solvent induced phase separation process, a new microporous membrane with the semi‐interpenetrating polymer network (semi‐IPN) structure was produced. For this membrane, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer is crosslinking and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) polymer is linear, by changing the mass ratio of PDMS/PVDF, the structure and the performance of the prepared membranes were studied. The membranes were also investigated by attenuated total reflection‐Fourier transform infra… Show more

“…In Figure 6A, the peak in the XRD spectrum of the pure PDMS sample between 10° and 15.6° is the characteristic amorphous peak of PDMS. [ 36 ] Compared to the pure PDMS‐1.0 curve, an enhanced wide peak, between 16.6° and 30.9°, appears in the CNT/PDMS‐1.0 curve in Figure 6B, which may be caused by the addition of CNTs. A characteristic peak for CNTs emerges around 25°, [ 37 ] but gradually weakens as SR increases.…”

“…The decreasing of the modulus can be explained with the fact that the thermoplastic polymer PEN acts as the plasticizer which will reduce the interaction between the rigid crosslinking networks. Then, the flexural modulus increases with the PEN content increased, this is due to the copolymerization of BA-ph and PEN that forms the semi-interpenetrating polymer networks [34]. In the discussion of DSC and DRA, the results also indicate that the copolymerization occurred between BA-ph and PEN when the content of PEN over to 20 wt %.…”

“…The semi-IPN membranes demonstrated 99.9% desalting of NaCl solution (30 g L −1 ) and the performance was compared to that of the reported systems. 68 To improve the permselectivity and antifouling characteristic of conventional RO membrane, Wang et al developed a Semi-IPN based on polyamide (PA) and poly (N-vinyl-2pyrrolidone) (PVP). The modied membrane with optimal (0.5-10s-NVP) amount showed 43.2% and 0.2% increments in water ux and salt rejection, respectively.…”
