PdII, ZnII and AgI Complexes of Tetrakis(N‐7‐azaindolyl)benzene: Variation of Bonding Modes, Extended Structures and Luminescence

Abstract: PdII , Ag I and Zn II complexes of tetrakis(7-azaindolyl)benzene (ttab), [(PdCl 2 ) 2 (ttab)] (1), [(ZnCl 2 ) 2 (ttab)] (2), [Ag(NO 3 )] 2 -(ttab) (3a) and [Ag(NO 3 )(DMSO)] 2 (ttab) (3b) were synthesized and fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy, singlecrystal X-ray diffraction and elemental analyses. The ttab ligand in these complexes displays two different bonding modes. In the Pd II and Zn II complexes, the ttab ligand chelates to the metal center via two ortho 7-azaindolyl groups (the ortho mode). In co… Show more

“…Structurally characterized Ag(I)-OSMe 2 complexes are rare, and to our knowledge, monometallic adducts like [HB(3,5-(CF 3 ) 2 Pz) 3 ]Ag(OSMe 2 ) have not been reported in literature [30][31][32][33][34]. These few structural reports of Ag(I)-OSMe 2 adducts show that the Ag-O rather than Ag-S mode of OSMe 2 -metal linkage is the most common.…”

“…DMSO has been previously reported as a ligand for Ag(i), for instance, in the complex [Ag 2 (NO 3 ) 2 (ttab)(DMSO) 2 ] (ttab = 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(7-azaindolyl)benzene) where the Ag-O distance of the coordinated DMSO is 2.403 Å. [20] Other known examples include those by Catalano et al who reported two structures with DMSO coordinated to the silver centre with Ag-O distances 2.284 Å and 2.532 Å. [21] All the reported distances are slightly shorter than the distances observed in 5.…”

“…17 Besides, the position of the band at 403 nm in the PL spectrum of complex 1 is close to that in the lumines cence spectrum of a ZnCl 2 complex with 1,2,4,5 tetrakis (7 azaindol 1 yl)benzene (λ max = 380 nm). 18 However, unlike compound 1, in the latter case the intensity of the luminescence spectrum is significantly lower than that of the free ligand. 18 One more example of the complex with blue luminescence is a compound of ZnCl 2 with 7 aza indole (λ max = 408, 434 nm).…”
