The visible‐light‐enhanced catalytic activation of aryl chlorides for Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling (SMC) reactions is highly challenging because of the strength of the C−Cl bond. In this work, palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) were grown on a conjugated nanoporous polycarbazole (CNP), named Pd/CNP. The hybrid material Pd/CNP could catalyze the SMC reactions of aryl chlorides with arylboronic acids in water under blue LED irradiation at room temperature with high efficiency. This protocol exhibited good functional group tolerance and the catalyst could be recycled without significant loss of its catalytic activity. CNP not only provided photogenerated electrons to enrich the electron density of the Pd NPs but also generated holes for the activation of the arylboronic acids.

Metal Sulfide Photocatalysis: Visible‐Light‐Induced Organic Transformations

metal sulfides belong to an important subgroup of semiconductor photocatalysts that could promote a variety of valuable redox reactions under mild conditions. One notable merit of metal sulfides is their relatively smaller bandgaps than metal oxides, which in turn make sure that many of them can directly utilize visible light. Historically, the deployment of metal sulfides for visible-light-induced organic transformations took place shortly after the genesis of the research field of heterogeneous photocatalysis. In this review, we primarily focus on recent state-of-the-art advancements of metal sulfide photocatalysis aimed at visible-light-induced selective organic transformations. Interests in this specific branch of photocatalysis have been rekindled due to the new methods for materials synthesis; the pursuit of new mechanisms; or the integration of metal sulfides with metal oxides, metal nanoparticles or other emerging materials. Thus we categorize them into four sections according to the different strategies in developing novel or more efficient organic processes. Binary and ternary metal sulfides, usually associated with new materials synthesis and mechanistic insights, can be used directly for visible-lightinduced organic transformations. This is the basis of other further developments and will be introduced firstly. Next, the cooperation between metal sulfides and metal oxides or metal nanoparticles can be conducive to many photocatalytic systems. These developments will be discussed in the next two ensuing sections. Furthermore, the integration of metal sulfides with recent developed emerging materials such as metalorganic frameworks (MOFs), graphene and graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) will be discussed in another section to highlight the importance of merging metal sulfides with these materials. We attempt to keep an impartial panorama of these four distinctive sections even though the phases of development are quite different among sections, leaving plenty of room for the future expansion of this burgeoning area.

In Situ Synthesis of Well‐Ordered Magnetic Palladium Catalyst Triggered by Supramolecular Chaotropic Effect of Boron Cluster

Supramolecular chaotropic effect is a new topic in the field of nanocomposites (NCs) fabrication. Herein, this strategy was applied to prepare magnetic Fe3O4@γ‐CD‐boron cluster (SSAs)@Pd NCs in situ via a facile two‐step process, involving a supramolecular assembly process on Fe3O4 NPs and in situ formation of Pd nanoparticles. Boron clusters ([closo‐B12H12]2−) played a dual role in this synthetic process, and were used as a superchaotropic anion to interact with γ‐CD to form supramolecular self‐assemblies (SSAs), as well as efficient reductant to in situ reduce Pd(II) to Pd(0). Ascribed to the electrostatic attraction of boron clusters and capping effect of γ‐CD, ultrafine Pd nanoparticles were successfully coated on the Fe3O4@SSAs composites to fabricate Fe3O4@SSAs@Pd NCs. A combination of UV spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy was used to verify the formation of these magnetic Pd NCs. The ultrafine metallic Pd NPs imparted the magnetic composites with great potential in catalysis, especially for Suzuki coupling reactions. Remarkably, the obtained Fe3O4@SSAs@Pd NCs showed good catalytic performance, high stability and easy recycling via an external magnet.
