“…The levels were comparable to those found at a site for dismantling PCBcontaining equipment in Taizhou (Zhao et al, 2006b), and at the open-burning site in Guiyu (Wong et al, 2007b). However, they were lower than those detected at some heavily polluted sites (Priha et al, 2005;Herrick et al, 2007;Turrio-Baldassarri et al, 2007). The greatest total concentrations of PCBs were observed at locations 5, 6 and 9 (65-100 ng/g dw), all of which were relatively near to the e-waste recycling sites when compared to other locations.…”

“…In samples N o 5, 10 and 11 a higher proportion of penta-PCBs is observed than in other samples. Aroclor 1254 and 1260 were reported as the most used ones, especially in paints and sealants in some European countries [30,31]. Polychlorinated biphenyls like Delor (Delotherm, Hydelor) were produced by company Chemko Stražské (East Slovakia in former Czechoslovakia) from 1959 till 1984.…”

“…PCB were used for industrial application in closed systems: lubricants (industrial oils), dielectric fluids in electrical equipment such as transformers, capacitors, heat transfer, and hydraulic systems (Borja et al 2005;Erickson and Kaley 2011;Kas et al 1997;UNEP 2002). They were also employed in open uses, such as pesticide extenders, sealants, carbonless copy paper, lubricants, paints, adhesives, plastics, flame retardants, and dedusting agents on roads (ATSDR 2000;Diamond et al 2010;Kohler et al 2005;Priha et al 2005). Other uses, in partially open systems, include: heat transfer fluids; hydraulic fluid in lifting equipment, trucks and high-pressure pumps; vacuum pumps; voltage regulators; liquid filled electrical cables; and liquid filled circuit breakers (ATSDR 2000;Eisler and Belisle 1996;Erickson and Kaley 2011;Furukawa and Fujihara 2008).…”
