Pattern formation in the exciton inner ring

Abstract: We report on the two-beam study of indirect excitons in the inner ring in the exciton emission pattern. One laser beam generates the inner ring and a second weaker beam is positioned in the inner ring. The beam positioned in the inner ring is found to locally suppress the exciton emission intensity. We also report on the inner ring fragmentation and formation of multiple rings in the inner ring region. These features are found to originate from a weak spatial modulation of the excitation beam intensity in the … Show more

“…The peaks indicate the suppression of phase fluctuations of the exciton density wave at integer ν. [29][30][31][32][33]35]. In this work, we vary P and V simultaneously so that the ring radius and position are kept constant.…”

“…The external ring itself forms on the interface between the electron-rich and hole-rich regions [29][30][31][32][33]. This interface is essential for the MOES since no spontaneous density modulation is observed in another exciton ring-the inner ring where no such interface is involved [3,34,35]. (iii) The MOES is characterized by repulsive IX interaction [20].…”

“…Fainter fans are seen for the indirect exciton states-one starting from about 20 meV and another from about 80 meV in figure 3(b). The lower A number of properties of each eigenstate can be calculated from the exciton wave functions (11). In figure 4, we focus on the characteristics of the ground state of the system.…”
