Pattern and Significance of Asymptomatic Elevation of Liver Enzymes in Mycoplasma Pneumonia in Children

Abstract: Mycoplasma infection is on the rise in recent times. It usually infects any system, including liver. This study aims to show the significance of elevated liver enzymes in mycoplasma pneumonia and to have a look at future prospects. This is a single-center retrospective study involving 105 children serologically positive for mycoplasma IgM and IgG antibodies and 50 with community-acquired pneumonia caused by organisms other than mycoplasma and Epstein-Barr virus from June 2015 to June 2016 and all without prior… Show more

“…Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and respiratory syncytial virus are the most common pathogens of infection [3,4]. Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) is an acute respiratory infection caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae, accounting for 10-30% of bronchopneumonia [5,6]. In recent years, the incidence of Mycoplasma infection have been gradually rising trend, and the children's own immune system development is not mature, cases differences, children with mild can only show the upper respiratory tract infection, and critically ill children can lead to lung infection, and even lead to multiple organ dysfunction, serious life and health of children [7,8].…”

“…The asymptomatic elevation of liver enzyme levels is frequently encountered in MP infection [ 26 ]. The present study showed that the asymptomatic elevation of liver enzyme levels was more prominent in children with MP pneumonia with respiratory virus coinfection than in those without coinfection.…”

“…Mp can cause respiratory diseases such as acute and chronic respiratory infections, bronchitis and asthma (3,4). It can also cause extrapulmonary diseases including encephalitis, nephritis, myocarditis and other complications in severe cases (5,6). Mp epidemic is cyclical, with an epidemic peak every 3-7 years, and each epidemic lasts for 1-2 years (7).…”
