Pattern analysis for human intrusion detection with Leaky Coaxial Cables

Abstract: This paper presents a pattern analysis technique for human intrusion detection with a pair of Leaky Coaxial Cables (LCX). The LCXs are placed on the ground along the border of the site. When an object crosses the LCXs, the microwave radiated from the transmitting LCX is fluctuated. The sensor unit connecting the receiving LCX catches the fluctuating signals, then pattern analysis using the in-phase and the quadrature phase (I/Q) signals is utilized to recognize human intrusion. Our new approach uses two types … Show more

“…This implies that this type of sensor is mostly used along a perimeter. The magnitude of the Radio Frequency (RF) field perpendicular to the cable, decays as , where r is the radius [ 44 ]. Commercial RF security systems state normal RF field dimensions (as seen perpendicular on the cable) of 2–3 m width, 1 m height and 0.5 m depth [ 46 ].…”

“…R is the distance from the signal generator to the intruder, dis is the distance between the two LCX cables. s52R=c (8) where velocity of the LFM pulse signal c5c 0 = ffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffi l r E r p , c 0 is the velocity of electromagnetic in free space. l r and E r are properties of the insulating medium of LCX.…”

“…In fact, most research is using IQ-demodulated method for obtaining the phase information of the echo signal. [10][11][12] However, instead of the phase, more attention is paid to the amplitude of the synchronous subtraction for locating the intruder in this article. On the basis of the amplitude stability of the V IQ , the effects of the intruder positioning are evaluated at 40, 100, and 200 MHz separately according to the time delay, and the method of improving the positioning error is further studied.…”
