In this paper, firstly, an extensive empirical investigation is done by fitting linear regressions exhaustively to observe the pattern and nature of linear relationships of life expectancies of each age-group with that of all other age-groups in fifty-four Sample Registration System (SRS) life tables of Assam state of India. Secondly, two second degree polynomial regression models have been proposed for estimating life expectancies at birth (e0). Both the models have been empirically illustrated in fifty-four SRS life tables of India and fifty-four SRS life tables of each of 16 major Indian states. The estimated values of e0 are examined in relation to estimated values of the same by some other methods and e0 values available in SRS tables of the years 2001-05 and 2011-15. Moreover, e0 values for all districts of Assam are estimated by using one of the proposed polynomial regressions together with some indirect techniques of estimation.

Projectile injury caused by an arrow shot is a common skeletal marker of interpersonal violence in archaeological populations. The injuries of the spine were usually fatal. Only few reports on healing of the vertebra pierced by flint arrowpoint can be found in bioarchaeological literature. This paper presents an exceptional case of a healed trapped bronze arrowhead wound in the spine of a 7th-6th c. BC elite nomad from Central Kazakhstan. Computed radiography and tomography as well non-destructive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry provide detailed information about the context and mechanism of the injury.

Biofilms are the aggregation of microbial cells, which are associated with the surface in almost an irreversible manner. It exists in variety of forms like dental plaque, pond scum, or the slimy build up in sink. Biofilm formation involves sequence of steps like conditioning, attachment, metabolism, and detachment. Biofilm consists of water channels, EPS (Exopolysaccharide), and eDNA (Environmental DNA), which plays an important role in nutrient circulation, its development, and structure stabilization. Resistance of planktonic bacteria against antimicrobial agents gets increased on the formation of biofilm, which may be the presence of diffusive barrier EPS or neutralizing enzyme, cells undergoing starvation, or due to spore formation. There are numerous factors, which affects biofilm formation such as substratum effects, conditioning film on substratum, hydrodynamics, characteristics of the aqueous medium, cell characteristics, and environmental factors. Biofilm can cause industrial, medical, and household damage and is a reason for loss of billions of dollars every year. Development of biofilm on catheters, medical implants, and devices is a major cause of infections and diseases in humans. Examples include Plaque, Native Valve Endocarditis, Otitis media, Prostatitis, Cystic fibrosis, Periodontitis, Osteomyelitis, and many more.
