Pathogenic potential of Brucella ovis field isolates with different genotypic profile and protection provided by the vaccine strain B. ovis ΔabcBA against B. ovis field isolates in mice

Abstract: ISSN 0100-736X (Print) ISSN 1678-5150 (Online) RESUMO-[Vacina viva atenuada Brucella ovisΔabcBA encapsulada protege camundongos frente a desafios de B. ovis isoladas de campo.] Show more

“…22 Previous studies demonstrated that BoΔabcBA protects against experimental challenge with virulent Brucella strains. [17][18][19] Silva et al 17 found a protection index of approximately 1 when C57BL/6 mice immunized with alginate-encapsulated BoΔabcBA were challenged with virulent B. ovis, although protection indexes tend to increase when mice are challenged with more virulent B. ovis field isolates, 28 whereas Eckstein et al 19 reported a 1.5 protection index in response to an experimental challenge with wild-type B. canis. It is noteworthy that although the mouse model is a broadly used tool for assessing vaccine protective potential, it cannot precisely predict the degree of protection that can be achieved when the vaccine is administered to Brucella-preferential host species.…”
