BACKGROUNDOccupational dermatitis affects the quality of life and productivity of workers. Studies on the subject are scarce in Brazil. It is estimated that the disease is underreported and that many affected patients do not seek health care.OBJECTIVESTo conduct an epidemiological analysis of occupational dermatitis notified via SINAN in Brazil from January 2007 to December 2012; evaluate the profile of patients assisted; and check the main etiological agents involved.METHODSWe analyzed the compulsory notification forms of cases of occupational dermatitis filled nationwide during January 2007 to December 2012.RESULTSDuring the study period 3027 cases of occupational dermatitis were notified in Brazil. In 61.4% of cases patients were men aged between 35-49 years (39.6%). The most described etiological agent was chromium (13.9%). The location of the body most affected was the hands, with 28.4% of cases. The construction sector is implicated in 28.7% of cases and domestic services by 18%. Allergic contact dermatitis is the most prevalent occupational dermatitis (20.6%) and the region with the highest number of notifications was the Midwest, with 376.4 cases per million inhabitants.CONCLUSIONSThe profile of patients most affected by occupational dermatitis in Brazil during the study period was: men with elementary school, aged between 20 and 49 years old and working in the construction industry. The most common occupational dermatitis were allergic contact dermatitis caused by chromium after years of exposure, being the hands and head the parts of the body most affected.

Background: Allergic contact dermatitis is a type of contact dermatitis, whose prevalence tends to increase every year. Patch test is an important diagnostic test to confirm the disease. The result of patch test can help doctors to perform appropriate treatment. The aim of the study was to identify the most frequent allergen causing allergic contact dermatitis based on patch test results. Methods: This was a descriptive retrospective study among patients who underwent patch test at the Dermatology and Venereology Clinic in Dr.Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung, Indonesia from August 1st, 2014 to August 31st, 2015. The patch test result was obtained from the patient's medical record and recapitulation data. The patient's medical record would be collected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study also collected demographic data of the patients, including age, sex, and occupation.The collected data were presented using tables. Results: Out of 45 patient's medical records, 19 patients were male (42.2%) and 26 patients were female (57.8%). Nickel sulphate was the most frequent allergen with 17 sensitization. Thirteen out of 17 patients who were sensitized by nickel sulphate were females. A great majority of the patients were in the age group of 15-44 years. Most of the patients were students (42.2%). Allergic contact dermatitis (64.4%) was the main clinical diagnosis among the patients. Conclusions: The most frequent allergen causes allergic contact dermatitis is nickel sulphate.

Background: Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a disease characterised by an immune mediated response to a substance. The primary prevention remains avoidance of the implicated allergen. This is done with the help of patch test using the Indian Standard series (ISS).Methods: Out of the 246 cases of ACD that came to our Dermatology department, 92 patients were selected and subjected to patch testing using the ISS. Results were read after 48 and 96 hours, interpreted as per ICDRG criteria and were analysed.Results: From 92 patients 59.8% were males and 40.2% were females. Majority of the individuals with ACD who were patch tested belonged to the age range of 21-60 years accounting to 72.8%. The most affected site was the foot. 26.7% showed positivity to Black rubber mix, followed by potassium dichromate 20% and nickel 14.4%. 7.8% produced delayed reactions with positivity revealed at the final reading. One patient gave multiple positive reactions to paraben, PPD and chlorocresol.Conclusions: In the study middle aged males were mostly affected which may be influenced by the sample selected. Black rubber mix was identified as the most frequent sensitizer followed by potassium dichromate which was also implicated as the sensitizer most seen in the unskilled generally. Fragrance mix was responsible for all delayed responses yielding positivity in the second reading. When not considering the negligible left, patch tests’ results could be correlated with the clinical presentations. Patients were treated, educated on ACD and advised to refrain from exposure with suggestions of possible alternatives.
