“…The periglacial landscape between the High Sudetes Mountains and the Bohemian Forest can be reconstructed by pollen analysis carried out also on other Late Glacial S372 V. Jankovská lake sediments (e.g., Hrabanov -Petr, 2005; lake Komořanské jezero -Jankovská, 1983-Jankovská, , 2000Labský důl valley -Jankovská, 2004a;Engel et al, 2004). Pollen analysis in the Bohemian Forest has a long tradition (Paul & Ruoff, 1927, 1932Müller, 1927;Rudolph, 1929;Kral, 1979;Stalling, 1987;Knipping, 1989;Brande, 1995;Svobodová et al, 2001Svobodová et al, , 2002Jankovská, 2004b). Pollen analysis on lakes of glacial origin in the Bohemian Forest were carried out on the youngest sediments of lakes Černé jezero, Čer-tovo jezero, and Prašilské jezero, mainly for the purpose of modern acidification studies (Břízová, 2004).…”

“…Referenced data has enabled us, however, to compare our results with general palynological trends, primarily on the basis of the pollen record originating from the relatively large water surface of the ca 10 km distant Řežabinec (Rybníčková, Rybníček 1985). As documented in this pollen record and in pollen assemblages from the Bohemian Forest, the fir pollen curve reaches its maximum in the sub-boreal zone (Svobodová et al 2001;2002). Fir pollen grains are not transported all that far, the majority of the pollen grains settle within 0.5 km of the parent tree (Eisenhut 1961).…”

“…Their occurrence is traditionally primarily associated with medieval horizons (Kozáková et al 2009). Pollen grains of rye and cornflowers occasionally occur, however, in pollen diagrams coming from the upper parts of the Bohemian Forest from the sub-boreal zones, (Svobodová et al 2001;2002). Contamination with materials from later periods cannot be completely ruled out in the samples from Vrcovice.…”

“…From the refugium of the Eastern Alps (Slovenia-Istria), beech spread to south Moravia (the border of the present Northpannonian, Hercynian and Westcarpathian sub-provinces), from which it expanded further north (Magri et al, 2006). Together with south Moravia, the Šumava Mts and the Bohemian Forest Mts also contributed as centres of the European beech distribution range during the last two glacial/interglacial cycles, as indicated from where the natural vegetation of central Europe originated (Svobodová et al, 2001).…”
