Particle-Vibration Coupling Effect on theβDecay of Magic Nuclei

Abstract: Nuclear β decay in magic nuclei is investigated, taking into account the coupling between particles and collective vibrations, on top of self-consistent random phase approximation calculations based on Skyrme density functionals. The low-lying Gamow-Teller strength is shifted downwards and at times becomes fragmented; as a consequence, the β-decay half-lives are reduced due to the increase of the phase space available for the decay. In some cases, this leads to a very good agreement between theoretical and exp… Show more

“…In both cases, it has been possible to show that a conspicuous spreading width is developed with the inclusion of PVC effects, and thus good agreement with experimental data for the GTR and the SDR is obtained. The RPA+PVC model has also been applied to β-decay [31], and great improvement with respect to mere RPA has been found as far as the description of the β-decay half-lives in magic nuclei is concerned.…”

“…A number of PVC models of various levels of refinement and self-consistency have been developed [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19] and applied to studies of structure phenomena. In this work we present an approach based on nuclear DFT and the particle-core coupling scheme [1,6].…”

“…In this framework the coupling between the motion of single-nucleons and the collective vibrations (phonons) is considered, so that 2p2h configurations in the 1p1h⊗phonon coupling scheme, are explicitly taken into account. A non-relativistic version of the PVC approach has led to an overall good description of GT resonances and half-lives, using various Skyrme forces [19,20,21]. The so-called Relativistic Time-Blocking Approximation (RTBA) has also quite successfully investigated the effect of the particle-vibration coupling on Gamow-Teller and spin-dipole modes in a relativistic framework [22,23].…”
