Partial left ventriculectomy for infantile ischemic cardiomyopathy caused by anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery

Abstract: complicate hypertension. Our findings suggest that age at repair might not be as important in the development of left ventricular hypertrophy and vascular damage in postcoarctectomy patients as is often believed. Our findings support the hypothesis that aortic coarctation forms part of an extensive developmental abnormality of the proximal systemic arterial system also involving the left ventricle and the carotid arteries. Nowadays, early correction is recommended to reduce the risk of future sustained hyperten… Show more

“…In the second report, González López et al. [ 29 ] present a case similar to those described by Yamagishi et al [ 10 ] and Westaby et al. [ 11 ] , where a four-month baby with anomalous origin of the left coronary artery of the pulmonary artery and who developed severe heart failure with EF<20%, was submitted to PLV.…”

“…Yamagishi et al [ 10 ] and Westaby et al [ 11 ] present separately a female child case, one is 3 years old and the other is only 5 months old, both with ischemic DCM caused by anomalous origin of the left coronary artery of pulmonary artery, submitted to PLV. In both cases, and in agreement with the results of Souza et al [ 7 ] study, after performing the procedure, the kids have already presented very significant improvements in LV function, sharp reduction in the cavity volume and great improvement in FS.…”

“…In centers where these devices still are not readily available, the Batista operation must be considered as a salvage procedure to improve myocardial efficiency. Because of the lack of experience with this procedure in infants associated with this coronary anomaly, it is unlikely that any one center will accumulate sufficient experience; to date, only two previous cases of successful Batista operation associated with this anomaly have been reported 5,6 . A “selected ventriculoplasty” (described for idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy) is another feasible option.…”

“…However, it has not been considered in severe cardiac failure in the pediatric population. As a salvage procedure, only a few cases have been reported but to date, follow‐up data are limited.…”
