Second Language Acquisition (SLA) is a complex psychosomatic process. As per educational psychology, its acquisition process depends on some affective determinants related to learners' self-confidence that accelerates learners’ zeal of learning the language. However, studies are rare to empirically explore the factors or the ways that help learners build their self-confidence level. Thus, the prime focus of this study is to find out factors associated with accelerating learners’ self-confidence in SLA through a qualitative case study. Data have been collected through semi-structured interviews carried out over the phone due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 13 respondents (7 boys and 6 girls) have been interviewed who have recently completed their postgraduation. The obtained data have been analyzed with the help of the content analysis technique. The study finds that the self-confidence of a learner gets accelerated by three main factors like motivational factor, social factor, and environmental factor which motivate a learner to learn L2. Based on the findings, some policy recommendations have been suggested to further improve L2 learners’ self-confidence level.

This study aimed to determine the significant relationship between parental motivation and achievement of senior high school students. A simple random sampling technique was used to include 56 respondents. Through non-experimental quantitative descriptive-correlational research technique, validated questionnaire, Mean, Pearson-Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (Pearson-r) and Simple Linear Regression; results showed that the level of parental motivation was high or oftentimes manifested. It was also found that the level of achievement was high or very satisfactory. There was a significant relationship between parental motivation and achievement. This implies that when parents show motivation towards their children’s education, the students tend to perform better academically. Accordingly, parental motivation significantly influences student’s achievement. It was recommended that future researchers broaden their scope beyond parental motivation and consider other influential factors on student achievement, such as peer influence, teaching quality, and personal motivation. Longitudinal and intervention studies were also recommended to be conducted.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to identify strengths and weaknesses in the integration of Filipino values in school-based management (SBM) functions and to emphasize the need for a tailored Values Enhancement Program to address areas requiring improvement. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study is a Concurrent Triangulation mixed method design conducted in the Schools Division of Angeles City, Mabalacat City, and City of San Fernando in Pampanga province. It involves data analysis to identify areas of strength and weakness in demonstrating Filipino values in various SBM functions. Findings/Result: The research reveals a consistent demonstration of Filipino values by school heads in various SBM functions. However, certain areas need attention, such as accepting negative feedback, avoiding personal pride, embracing innovation, avoiding a sense of superiority, and prioritizing the family needs of absent staff members. Notable strengths are observed in integrating Filipino values into SBM functions, particularly in the School Environment domain, Resource Management domain, and Respect for elders or Paggalang. Originality/Value: The study provides insights into the demonstration of Filipino values in SBM functions and offers recommendations for improvement through a tailored Values Enhancement Program. The findings contribute to the understanding and application of Filipino values in the context of SBM and provide value by guiding interventions for public secondary school heads to enhance their understanding and practice of Filipino values.
