“…the presence of more children in the same family is associated with high parental stress levels. This may be due to the higher commitment of parents in having to manage more children, when repeated hospitalizations cause more stress [19]. In terms of Birth order, the study has shown that parents of children with chronic illness bear higher stress level compared to other parents, and in particular, a high Birth order in a family with a child with the disease, implies parents with high or suspicious stress, whereas a low Birth order in a family predicts parents with normal stress levels.…”

“…36,37 Finally, a recent meta-analysis from 12 studies, reported a positive effect of specific interventions (eg, emotion regulation, social and structural supports) on parental anxiety and stress. 38 Finding the appropriate amount of medical information that should be given to parents prior to their child's intervention remains a difficult balance to find. On the one hand, medicolegal issues require the physicians to provide extensive and fair information, which may contribute to increase the anxiety level of the parents in a disproportionate way.…”

“…Therefore, it is necessary for the professional to have effective communication and to explain the situation clearly and with a language accessible to the caregiver, since this type of attitude can help to reassure and create a link of trust between the team and the responsible for the child. 3 It was raised in a survey conducted at a state public referral hospital in the municipality of Fortaleza that most caregivers stated that only medical professionals would provide information on the illness and hospitalization of their children. It is known, however, that the nurse has ample condition to pass on this type of information and it has to be imposed and assume this role with the families from the beginning of admission to the hospital.…”

“…2 The importance of health professionals to pay attention not only to the child, but also to his family, is necessary to establish an integral care, since both face the period of hospitalization together. 3 In the face of the experience of the hospitalization of the child, it is necessary to cope with and adapt to the family, since normal expectations of the parents in relation to the child are frustrated when the child needs hospitalization. This period of coping with these events is characterized by frustration and stress that breaks down family stability.…”
