O manejo florestal madeireiro em florestas inequiánias tem sido uma alternativa econômica e ambientalmente viável no Brasil através das técnicas e procedimentos apropriados pelo emprego do Plano de Manejo Florestal Sustentado (PMFS), possibilitando a obtenção da produção madeireira com maior produtividade por unidade de área e com menor impacto possível, garantindo condição de regeneração e rebrota das espécies exploradas para futuros ciclos de cortes. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo tem por objetivo examinar questões pertinentes aos aspectos da legislação ambiental e aspectos técnico-científicas orientadores do PMFS na consecução do Manejo Florestal Sustentado da Caatinga (MFSC) com base em legislações, protocolos e literatura especializada. Diante do levantamento, observou-se que as orientações técnicas disponíveis para o MFSC necessitam de atualizações complementares, principalmente acerca de melhoria de logística operacional aprimorado com as demandas técnicas nas diferentes tipologias vegetacionais de caatinga. As áreas submetidas ao MFSC podem ser enquadradas como áreas de relevante interesse ecológico para a conservação dos recursos florestais e proteção da biodiversidade, uma vez que as intervenções são planejadas, controladas, temporárias e cíclicas com baixo impacto.

In the Caatinga, the maintenance of forest ecosystems depends on natural regeneration and several factors that can act in two ways: 1) provide the perpetuation of communities composheed of few species that dominate the adult and saplings strata, resulting in floristic similarities; 2) provide local differentiation between adult and saplings strata. However, these relationships remain poorly understood, as it is not known whether the factors acting on a local scale favor the floristic similarity between the adult and saplings strata or if these patterns are found in conserved and anthropized areas. This work evaluated the floristic similarity between the adult and saplings strata of hyperxerophilous caatinga woody-shrubby vegetation in conserved and anthropized areas. In two areasof conserved and anthropized hyperxerophilous Caatinga, adult and saplings individuals were measured and floristic richness and qualitative floristic similarity were evaluated. The floristic similarity between the adult and saplings strata was statistically compared using the Chao-Sørensen index. In both sites, although there was a large number of species exclusive to the adult stratum, the Chao-Sørensen index indicates high floristic similarity between strata. The analysis of this behavior together with the assessment of community structure shows that few species can be responsible for the key processes that structure and control the main mechanisms of persistence of these ecosystems. This can be attributed to the existence of locally uniform conditions that can define the dominance of adapted species groups.

Paganuccia is described as a new genus of Rubiaceae, only known so far from two collections from the continental dunes in the São Francisco River basin, Bahia, north‐eastern Brazil. The morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses based on nuclear (ETS, ITS) and plastid (atpB‐rbcL, petD, rps16, trnL‐trnF) sequence data, support the recognition of a new genus within the Spermacoce clade (tribe Spermacoceae). Paganuccia is one of several well‐supported lineages, still largely unresolved with respect to each other. We considered that its isolated position in combination with the unique set of morphological character states and biogeographic evidence can fully support its recognition as a new genus. We have provided a formal description of Paganuccia, including SEM observations of the fruit, pollen, and inflorescence structure, together with a distribution map and comments on its conservation. Additionally, the new genus is compared with the other climbing taxa in the tribe, and a key for all the genera of the Spermacoceae in the Americas is provided.
