Parameter Optimization of Large-Size High-Speed Cam-Linkage Mechanism for Kinematic Performance

Abstract: The cam-linkage mechanism is a typical transmission mechanism in mechanical science and is widely used in various automated production equipment. However, conventional modeling methods mainly focus on the design and dimensional synthesis of the cam-linkage mechanism in the slow-speed scenario. The influence of component dimensions is not taken into consideration. As a result, the model accuracy dramatically falls when analyzing large-size cam-linkage mechanisms, especially in high-speed environments. The kinem… Show more

“…where ∆θ = θ a /(N − 1) is the difference between the profile angles of two adjacent key points and |OA|is shown in Equation (22). Then, solve AOB 1max , because |OA| < |AB 1 | = r g , so although the known ∠AOB 1 max = ∠AOB st − ∆θ is not the angle between OA and AB 1max , the triangle has only one solution, and the solution is As shown in Figure 8b for subsequent key points, because the cubic spline curve must pass through the first two key points and the critical state of the curvature radius is when the three key points are on the circle with radius of r g , the polar radius of the third key point shall be less than that case.…”

“…However, in the EMB, because the input motion is arbitrary, the output motion pattern is not the most-direct design goal, and simply ensuring whether there is an impact is not enough [20,21]. The cam mechanism in the EMB acts as a transmission mechanism, having other design goals we need to care about [22]. The traditional design of the cam mechanism is often focused on the motion law of the follower [16,17].…”

“…This design was also adopted by the team of SJTU [27] to effectively mitigate the stagnation phenomenon in string transmission systems with circular rollers. However, their patent and study did not provide insights into the design rationale and parameter analysis of the non-circular cam profile, while Cardona's work on cam [35,36] and Zhu's research [37] gave us inspiration for deriving cam trajectories. In this section, we start with the conceptual design of the circular roller mechanism, then we elucidate the methodology for designing the non-circular cam mechanism and mathematically model it.…”
