Parallelization of the Honeybee Search Algorithm for Object Tracking

Abstract: Object tracking refers to the relocation of specific objects in consecutive frames of a video sequence. Presently, this visual task is still considered an open research issue, and the computer science community attempted solutions from the standpoint of methodologies, algorithms, criteria, benchmarks, and so on. This article introduces a GPU-parallelized swarm algorithm, called the Honeybee Search Algorithm (HSA), which is a hybrid algorithm combining swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithm principles, a… Show more

“…In object tracking, swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithms have been shown to perform well. In Perez-Cham et al [33], a hybrid algorithm combining swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithm principles named Honeybee Search Algorithm was proposed which was inspired by the search for food of honeybees. A key element of this work was the capability to run the algorithm in parallel on the GPU accelerating the processing time.…”

“…It can solve the problems of complexity and uncertainty in real engineering problems. Therefore, swarm intelligence evolution algorithms have been widely used in many engineering fields, including complex network community detection [13], image processing [14], pattern recognition [15], spectrum sensing [16], 3D scene reconstruction [17], object tracking [18], and wireless sensor networks [19]. That also makes the swarm intelligence evolution algorithm has been a relatively active research direction, and its related research mainly focuses on the following two aspects: First, aiming at the defects of the existing algorithm, propose improved algorithms to solve practical problems; Second, proposing a new swarm intelligence evolution algorithm to solve practical problems.…”
