Papillae-like morphology of Ni/Ni(OH)2 hybrid crystals by stepwise electrodeposition for synergistically improved HER

Abstract: The stepwise electrodeposition of Ni/Ni(OH)2 dual composition resulted in 3D hierarchical nanoarrays with a papillae-like hybrid crystal structure.

“…The O 1s spectra of the samples are displayed in Figure d; they are well deconvoluted into two oxygen-containing species. The peaks at 529.1 and 531.2 eV can be attributed to Ni–O–Ni and Ni–O–H bonds, respectively. , More importantly, the absence of Ni–O–Ni bonds and the higher intensity of the Ni–O–H bonds (compared to the bare NF sample) indicate that Ni(OH) 2 was formed in situ on the surface of NF during the activation process. All of these observations completely support the conclusion that as-obtained Ni(OH) 2 @NF has a core–shell structure, which is composed of a metallic Ni core and an ultrathin Ni(OH) 2 layer as a shell.…”

“…Thus, Ni/Ni(OH) 2 displayed an overpotential of only 53 mV when the cathodic current density was 10 mA cm À2 in alkaline condition. [74] Another appealing strategy is the logical design of Ni nanolayered double hydroxides (LDHs). Ni-based LDHs have the advantages of simple processing, low synthesis cost, and favorable stability.…”
