“…The relationship of the succinoxidase content of tissue with the a-tocopherol content (Tappel & Zalkin, 1959;Edwin & Green, 1960) and the dependence of ubiquinone levels on a-tocopherol content (Edwin, Diplock, Bunyan & Green, 1961) would explain the changes observed in the succinoxidase, a-tocopherol and ubiquinone contents of the livers. The parallelism observed between ubiquinone level and succinoxidase activity is in conformity with the reported participation of ubiquinone in electron transport in general and succinoxidase in particular (Aiyar et al 1959;Aiyar & Sreenivasan, 1961;Green & Lester, 1959;Hatefi, Lester, Crane & Widmer, 1959). Table 6 gives the lipid composition of both liver and plasma in terms of total lipids, phospholipids and cholesterol.…”

“…Its content in the tissues and blood of rats receiving thyroid preparations falls considerably [13,202,319]. Similar changes take place in hypothyroidism in man and experimental animals.…”

“…At the end of 8 weeks, when the animals fed the iodinated casein showed obvious symptoms of thyrotoxicosis, the animals were exsanguinated. The livers were homogenized and subcellular fractions were prepared as described in the preceding paper (Aiyar & Sreenivasan, 1962).…”

“…Vitamin B12 in liver homogenates was determined microbiologically by using Euglena gracilis as test organism (Hoff-Jorgensen, 1954), and succinoxidase was determined manometrically by the method of Schneider & Potter (1943). Ubiquinone in whole liver and in subcellular fractions was estimated as in the preceding paper (Aiyar & Sreenivasan, 1962).…”
