Govindraju and Chandra recruited 21-to 60-year-old subjects in their study and reported that the appearance of C1 category was more common among younger men and women, while the appearance of C2 and C3 categories was predominantly seen among older women: C2 category in 26-30-year-old female group and 31-35-year-old male group, C3 category in women around age of 41 age and in men around age of 51 years [33]. Background and objective. The aim of this study was morphological analysis of the cortical layer in the mandibular base distally from the mental foramen for determination of the mandibular cortical index in the Lithuanian young and middle-aged individuals according to gender, age, general health status, used medicine. Materials and methods. The study included 216 randomly selected subjects aged 19 to 50 years. A questionnaire was used to collect data on subjects’ age, gender, sociodemographic status, diseases, and used medicines, harmful habits. Skeletal bone status was examined according One – Minute test, panoramic radiography was performed, and panoramic radiographic images were analyzed to determine the mandibular cortical index. According to the classification by Klemetti, subjects were divided into 3 index morphological groups: C1, C2, and C3. Analysis was carried out by mentioned factors. Results. There was a significant relationship between mandibular cortical index and subject’s age (F=4.54; df=2; p=0.01), gender (χ2=16.22; df=2; p<0.01), thyroid diseases (p=0.05), hormonal preparation use (p<0.01), cigarette smoking (p<0.01). Conclusions: The study data confirmed the hypothesis that morphological changes in the cortical layer at the mandibular base were found among young and middle aged individuals with normal skeletal bone status and were significantly associated with subject’s age, gender, and other factors such as cigarette smoking, diseases having an influence on bone metabolism, used medicines.

This investigation was performed to calculate radiomorphometric indices in panoramic radiographs and identify possible relationships between these indices and sex, age, and body mass index of patients in Saudi and non-Saudi populations. Methods: In total, 955 panoramic radiographs were reconstructed from cone-beam computed tomography volumes of 133 male and 167 female patients (age range, 20-75 years; mean age AE standard deviation, 50.8 AE 8.9 years). Three panoramic indicators were calculated for Saudi and non-Saudi participants according to sex and age: the mental index (MI), panoramic mandibular index (PMI), and antegonial index (AGI). Results: The MI and AGI were significantly different between the two sexes, and the MI was significantly different between the Saudi and non-Saudi participants. Patients aged 20 to 40 years showed a significantly larger MI, PMI, and AGI than patients aged 40 to 60 years and patients aged >60 years. Conclusion: The findings of the present study revealed that the MI, PMI, and AGI were significantly different between the two sexes, among various age groups, and between Saudi and non-Saudi participants.

Dėl įvairių faktorių įtakos skeleto kaulų sistemoje vyksta įvairūs pokyčiai. Analizuojant žandikaulių kaulinio audinio morfologinius, kiekybinius ir kokybinius poslinkius odontologijos praktikoje naudojamose panoraminėse radiogramose yra nustatomi radiomorfometriniai indeksai – kaulinio audinio pokyčių diagnostiniai kriterijai. Tyrimo tikslas – nustatyti sąsajas tarp radiomorfometrinio smakro angos indekso, jauno ir vidutinio tiriamųjų amžiaus bei lyties. Medžiaga ir metodai. Tirta 139 individai nuo 20 iki 50 metų, surinkti koduoti anketiniai duomenys, atliktas panoraminis radiografinis tyrimas, vaizdų radiomorfometrinė analizė smakro angos indeksui nustatyti. Statistinei analizei naudota Microsoft Excel 2013 bei SPSS Statistics 22.0 Windows programų paketai. Statistinės hipotezės reikšmingumo lygmuo p=0,05. Rezultatai. Bendros grupės smakro angos indekso vidurkis (SN) 4,07 (0,62). Nenustatyta statistiškai reikšminga priklausomybė tarp indekso ir lyties (p>0,05), tačiau tiriamųjų grupėse pagal indekso reikšmių medianą įrodyta sąsaja tarp indekso ir tiriamųjų amžiaus (p=0,03). Išvados. Jauno ir vidutinio amžiaus žmonių smakro angos indekso reikšmė su metais didėja, tai vyksta maždaug iki 40 individo gyvenimo metų. Indekso vertės dydžiui reikšmės turi ne individo lytis, o amžius. Bendrai tiriamųjų grupei pagal smakro angos indekso vidurkį osteoporoziniai žandikaulio kaulinio audinio pokyčiai nebuvo įrodyti, panoramines radiogramas rekomenduojama tirti ir vertinti individualiai.
