“…The PPI was constructed using the palliative performance scale (described below) and four clinical presentations: oral intake, edema, dyspnea at rest and delirium. The palliative performance scale is a modification of the Karnofsky Performance Scale Index (Anderson et al, 1996), which grades a patient's general condition on a scale from 0 (death) to 100 (normal). The clinical presentations were evaluated using a structured interview in which patients were asked about the presence or absence of each symptom.…”
