Paleoproterozoic Multiple Tectonothermal Events in the Longshoushan Area, Western North China Craton and Their Geological Implication: Evidence from Geochemistry, Zircon U–Pb Geochronology and Hf Isotopes

Abstract: Abstract:The Alxa block is located in the southwestern margin of the North China Craton. The Paleoproterozoic tectonic evolution, crustal growth and tectonic affinity of the block remain unknown or controversial. The Longshoushan (LS) area is one of the few areas that outcrop Paleoproterozoic to crystalline basement rocks in the Alxa Block. In this study, we preset whole-rock geochemistry, zircon U-Pb geochronology and Lu-Hf isotope data from metagabbro, metadiorite, quartz syenite, granitic leucosome and pegm… Show more

“…The Yushigou diabase is characterized by a relatively low ϵ Nd (t) value (−14.4 to −13.4), EM-I-like Pb isotopic compositions, an enrichment in alkali, LREE and LILE contents, and a depletion in HFSE and HREE contents. These results indicate that the rock was derived from an enriched mantle source and/or it underwent extensive crustal contamination during ascent within the continental crust (Li et al 2015;Zeng et al 2018). As mentioned in Section 6.b.1, the Yushigou diabase did not undergo substantial crustal contamination during magmatic evolution.…”

“…The Longshoushan area consists primarily of outcrops of the Mesoarchean-Palaeoproterozoic Longshoushan Complex (Gong et al 2016;Zeng et al 2018), the late Mesoproterozoic Dunzhigou Group (Xu & Jiang, 2003) and the Neoproterozoic-Cambrian Hanmushan Group (Xie et al 2013). As the basement rock, the NWW-striking Longshoushan Complex is exposed in a long narrow belt that is approximately 500 km long and 30 km wide (Tung et al 2007).…”

“…Strong metamorphism and deformation in multiple periods [33] make the strata fragmented and it is difficult to judge the original stratigraphic sequence [34]. It mainly consists of schlieren and homogenic migmatites, marble, biotite-plagioclase gneiss, granulites, quartz schist, amphibolite, and pyroclastic rock [27,35]. The Dunzigou group is the earliest sedimentary overlying strata in the Longshoushan terrane, which is in angular unconformity contact with the lower Longshoushan group.…”
