Abstract: Calcareous nannofossils, mineralogical and geochemical investigations are carried out on the Cenomanian-Turonian boundary of the Gulneri Formation in the Azmir, Dokan and Degala sections, northern Iraq. Stable isotopic geochemistry in relation to major and trace elements geochemistry of core samples from the Gulneri Formation at Kirkuk Oilfield Northern Iraq has been conducted to determine the occurrence of the oceanic anoxic event (OAE2) and reconstruct the paleoenvironmental conditions during this event. Positive values of the stable carbon isotopic data have revealed that temperature is high during deposition accompanied with higher organic productivity and a high rate of organic carbon burial with a decrease in dissolved oxygen in marine environments, whereas, negative oxygen isotopic values indicate deposition in hot, dry, semi-arid environments with salty marine waters and high organic productivity. These results were also supported by geochemical evidence of paleoclimate through C-value and ratios of Sr/Cu, Rb/Sr, and Ga/Rb, paleosalinity using proxies from Ca/Ca+Fe and Sr/Ba ratios, and paleoproductivity using P/Ti, P/Al and barium ratios. The paleoredox proxies from V/(V+Ni), V/Ni, and U/Th ratios and Uδ indicate dominant anoxic conditions. The recorded oceanic anoxic event (OAE2) has been determined through significant excursion in carbon and oxygen isotopic values as well as geochemical proxies within the sequences of the upper part of the formation marking the final stage of the OAE event.

Early Jurassic- to Early Cretaceous-age calcareous nannofossils from the Sarki, Sehkanyian, Sargelu, Naokelekan, Barsarin and Chia Gara formations are investigated for the first time from the Warte area, northeastern Iraqi Kurdistan. A range of isotopic and inorganic geochemical analyses are carried out in order to reconstruct the paleoecological and paleoclimatic conditions during which the Sarki, Sehkanyian, Sargelu, Naokelekan, Barsarin and Chia Gara formations were deposited. The age of the Sargelu Formation was determined as Bajocian–Callovian based on the first occurrence of Cyclagelosphaera margerelii, Watznaueria britannica, W. fossacincta, W. manivitiae, Watznaueria barnesiae and Watznaueria ovata. Geochemical proxies (Sr, Ca, Al, Rb/Sr, Sr/Cu and Sr/Ba) for paleoclimate and paleoecological conditions, along with oxygen isotopes (δ18O) data, suggest that warm and arid climatic conditions were predominant during the Early Jurassic–Early Cretaceous period.

Evaporation transpiration is one of the most important results in the water balance equation for any natural area or water body, and it is also a critical component of the hydrological cycle. The relationship between temperature and transpiration was obtained using the Thornthwaite method in three stations along with Babylon Governorate. The data for the three meteorological stations were taken for 10 years. The value of climate change was obtained within the study area, including temperature, evaporation, humidity, and rainfall. The value of potential evapotranspiration was calculated by the Thornthwaite method, and the highest value was obtained in July (421.9), and the lowest value in January (3.66). Also, the increase in water was calculated for a study area. It appeared that the increase in evapotranspiration and decrease was in direct relationship with the temperature intensity of the study area.
