Objetivos: El objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar la prevalencia y las características del dolor de los pacientes en hemodiálisis. Material y Método: Se llevó a cabo un estudio observacional descriptivo y transversal en 134 pacientes (40% mujeres y edad media de 68.05±13.77 años) del área de influencia del Servicio de Nefrología del Hospital Reina Sofía de Córdoba. Para valorar las características del dolor se utilizó el Cuestionario de Dolor Español y Cuestionario Breve del Dolor. Además, se evaluó la dependencia y comorbilidad. Resultados: El 69% de los pacientes manifestaron padecer dolor, frente a un 31% que no tenían. El dolor percibido como más doloroso fue el de origen músculo- esquelético y los calambres, con una prevalencia del 36% y 24%, respectivamente. El 64% del dolor se localizó en miembros inferiores, seguido del localizado en la espalda. Respecto a la Intensidad Máxima, del peor dolor padecido en la última semana, el 66% lo calificó como severo, mientras que en el momento de la entrevista un 38% no tenía dolor. El estado de ánimo y el descanso fueron las actividades menos afectadas por el dolor, con una mediana de 5. Conclusiones: La prevalencia del dolor es alta en los pacientes estudiados, siendo el de origen músculo-esquelético el más frecuente y localizado principalmente en miembros inferiores; además, el dolor tiene una repercusión directa en la mayoría de las actividades de la vida diaria de los pacientes. La principal causa de dolor relacionada con el procedimiento de la hemodiálisis son los calambres musculares.

Pain is an important health issue that is common among patients who receive hemodialysis treatment and greatly affects the patients' quality of life. This study aims to assess the qualitative pain characteristics of patients who receive hemodialysis treatment using the McGill Pain Questionnaire. Material and Method: This descriptive and cross-sectional study included 87 patients who received HD treatment. Data were collected using an information form and the McGill Pain Questionnaire in the HD clinic of a training and research hospital in Turkey between 01.04.2019 and 31.09.2019. Results:The study is found that the mean current pain scores of the HD patients were moderate (2.13±0.56). The study is determined that the patients experienced pain most often in the lower extremity (36.8%) and head region (29.9%) and least in the upper extremity (11.5%). The hemodialysis procedure (44.8%), not following the diet (23%), fatigue (16.1%) and stress (16.1%) were found to intensify the pain. The study is found that analgesics (36.8%), resting (31%), complementary approaches (17.2%) and other practices (14.9%) relieved pain when patients were in pain. The study is also found that the patients often used the words tiring (n=47), sickening (n=42), fearful (n=41), and wretched (n=38) to define the pain they felt. Conclusion:Measuring pain are greatly important to increase the quality of life. The results obtained indicate that assessment of the pain individualistically will be a guide to provide a holistic approach in HD patients.

Objective: This study was conducted to find out the pain management status and life satisfaction of elderly individuals living in a nursing home and to determine the relationship between these.Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in a nursing home in Turkey in November 2019. The data were collected by the researchers with face-to-face interview technique by using "Personal Information Form", "Geriatric Pain Measure (GPM)", "Pain Management Inventory (PMI)" and "Life Satisfaction Scale (LSS)".Results: GPM total score was 48.95±11.24, and average LSS was 14.37±6.85. There is a positive statistically significant association between GPM and PMI (r=0.385; p<0.01), while there is a negative statistically significant association between GPM and LSS (r=-0.369; p<0.01). There is a negative statistically significant association between PMI and LSS (r=-0.344; p<0.01). Conclusion:It was found that elderly individuals had moderate level of pain and poor life satisfaction. It was found that as level of pain increased, elderly individuals' life satisfaction decreased.
