“…Obviously, many investigations are being focused on how to improve the reactivity of these SCMs. The main choices are: (i) Mechanical activation (Knop and Peled, 2016;Liu et al, 2018) (controlling the particle size distribution); (ii) Thermal activation (Vizcaíno-Andrés et al, 2015;Scrivener et al, 2018b) (especially for calcined clays-LC3 technology-); (iii) Chemical activation (Ruiz-Santaquiteria et al, 2013;Allahverdia and Malekia Mahinroosta, 2018) ("alkaline activated cement"). It is quite probable that future will lead to us to a combination of those options above mentioned like the most effective choice.…”

“…An effect on the packing density was also shown by Knop et al [ 18 ]; blended cement with limestone additive and combined particle sizes attained a greater packing density than single-sized limestone-blended cement. In addition, this effect of the limestone size and content on the packing density was simulated by a mathematical model [ 19 ]. The same effect was also observed by Vuk et al [ 9 ], who showed that the addition of fine limestone powder (2% residue on a 90-mm sieve) decreases the water demand necessary for standard consistency and also decreases the initial and final settings, as measured by the Vicat method.…”

“…Dentre os vários fatores que afetam o empacotamentomorfologia, porosidade, densidade das partículas, efeito de parede, técnica de compactaçãoo estado de dispersão das partículas é o que influi diretamente na trabalhabilidade e demais propriedades do concreto no estado fresco [12][13][14]. Partículas finas tendem a ser submetidas a forças coesivas interparticulares (forças de Van der Waals) formando pequenos aglomerados de partículas [15].…”
