p53 and p21WAF1/CIP1overexpression at the invasive front of lower lip squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: Our results indicate that p53 and p21(WAF1/CIP1) overexpression is important in LLSCC pathogenesis, reinforce that IF is the most important area for tumor behavior, and support that p53-independent mechanisms should be involved in the expression of p21(WAF1/CIP1).

“…Activation of NF-κB in MNNG-induced gastric tumours was associated with upregulation of cyclins and PCNA with simultaneous downregulation of p53 and p21, consistent with similar observations in other malignant tumours [12,[30][31][32]. Our results also demonstrate the ability of eugenol to fine tune the expression of NF-κB target genes and halt cell cycle progression.…”

“…Therefore, our data showed that immunoreactivity for p53 protein was observed in both premalignant and malignant lesions of the lower lip. These data along with previous studies [13,23] corroborate and emphasize that the overexpression of p53 protein is mainly present in the early stages of oral carcinogenesis process.…”
