P‐202: High Transmittance LC Pixel Design for Multi‐View 3D Mobile Display

Abstract: Using a 6‐view 3D mobile display, a modified LC pixel mode that increases transmittance and brightness uniformity for each viewing zone plus pixel electrode physical re‐configuration capable of increasing Aperture Ratio were investigated. The pixel mode utilized was the single‐domain VA. In the modified case of the single domain VA mode with the reconfiguration, it was observed that by optimizing each pixel, the transmittance of the single‐domain VA could be improved by more than 24% at relatively wide, mobile… Show more

“…If changing the liquid crystal mode to single-domain VA [4] and the alignment of the pixels for 6 perspective views are different so that there are 6 groups of pixel with their transmittance profile optimized for the corresponding view, as shown in Fig. 4, the aperture ratio of slanted barrier can be increased to 10.3% while maintaining an average crosstalk of 5%, and the overall efficiency of the panel has an 39% improvement comparing to the case of conventional transmittance profile.…”

“…The improvement on the efficiency attributes only to the change of angular transmittance profile and modification on the pixel layout. The increase of the transmittance from the dedicated liquid crystal mode will contribute further improvement on the efficiency without sacrificing crosstalk performance [4].…”
