Oxidative stress and motility in tench Tinca tinca spermatozoa

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The attachment of the urinary bladder to the seminal duct near the anal aperture in tench constitutes a potential risk for urine contamination of sperm during collection, leading to spontaneous activation of sperm motility by urine hypotonicity. It was hypothesized that sperm hypotonic exposure can provoke oxidative stress which could be involved in sperm quality degradation. Our study aimed to describe spermatozoa motility parameters and levels of oxidative stress in activating media (AM) of differin… Show more

“…Therefore, it is necessary to ensure optimal genetic sires selection (Zhang et al 2015) as well as semen processing including semen collection (Dzyuba et al 2015), dilution (Meamar et al 2016), slow cooling to 4-6°C (Kristan et al 2014), and equilibration (Beran et al 2013b) as well as cryopreservation maintaining spermatozoa fertilization capability (Andrabi 2007) evaluated objectively if possible (Simonik et al 2015).…”

“…Sperm motility is widely used as a basic marker of semen or spermatozoa quality (Dzyuba et al 2015;Zhang et al 2015;Petelak and Krylov 2016;Simonik et al 2016). Previous studies focusing on the effects of the above-mentioned substances differ in their conclusions as well as in their methodological approaches.…”
