Oxidation of Vanillin with Supported Gold Nanoparticles

Abstract: The selective oxidation of vanillin to vanillic acid was achieved using gold nanoparticles supported on alumina and titania. Selectivities up to 99 % at conversions over 90 % were obtained with pressurized oxygen as green oxidant in alkaline aqueous media. Our studies showed that the addition of at least 2 equivalents of strong Brönsted base had a crucial role in suppressing vanillin degradation and achieving high selectivity and conversion. The highest activities involved turn-over frequency values up to 1300… Show more

“…Asam vanilat merupakan produk yang dihasilkan dari vanilin. Oksidasi lignin menjadi vanilin dapat menghasilkan asam vanilat yang disertai dengan proses degradasi yang tidak diinginkan sehingga digunakan reaksi oksidasi untuk mensintesis asam vanilat dari vanilin (Rautiainen et al, 2016). Suatu aldehida apabila dioksidasi akan berubah menjadi gugus asam karboksilat sehingga oksidasi vanilin akan Pharmaceutical and Sciences |Volume 6|No.2|APRIL-JUNI|2023|pp.358-364 Electronic ISSN : 2656-3088 Homepage: https://www.journal-jps.com menghasilkan asam vanilat.…”

“…More studies must be done towards understanding the effect of protective agents on the characteristics of carbohydrates, providing useful information for efficient valorization of carbohydrates. Methoxylated 4-Hydroxybenzaldehydes and 4-Hydroxybenzoic Acids Vanillin and vanillic acid are very important chemicals for polymer, pharmaceutical, and agrochemical industries [36][37][38]. Hence, annual vanillin demand is growing at a rate of 2-4% in Europe/USA and it reached almost 10% in China, with the current global demand of around 20 kilotons per year [39,40].…”
