“…Hydrogen peroxide formation was observed over the Au-Pd supported catalyst. H 2 O 2 formed O-centered radicals (detected by ESR with DMPO {5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide} spin trapping), which enhanced the methane to methanol oxidation reaction [77,78]. The promoting effect of hydroxyl radicals obtained from OH − was discussed for aqueous-phase CO and glycerol oxidation over Au/C catalysts [14,79].…”

“…On the other hand, Au-Pd has shown promising performance in a variety of reactions, especially in the selective oxidation of alcohols [44], direct production of H 2 O 2 from H 2 and O 2 [105], and C-C coupling [106]. Very recently, Hutchings and co-workers reported that oxidation of methane to methanol, which is a rather challenging reaction, could be accomplished with Au-Pd alloy catalyst [107]. In these oxygen-involving reactions, the enrichment and oxidation of Pd on the surface will probably occur during pretreatment or the reaction process, which results in a quite different chemical composition from surface to bulk.…”

“…Taking into account from previous studies that H 2 O 2 or tert-butyl hydroperoxide has been used efficiently to oxidise methane, we thought that a hydroperoxide intermediate may be effective for the oxidation of methane. Therefore, the catalytic performance of supported Au-Pd nanoparticles for the liquid-phase oxidation of methane was carried out using either H 2 O 2 , or in situ generated H 2 O 2 from H 2 and O 2 as oxidant [36]. Using supported Au-Pd nanoparticles synthesised by the impregnation method, high selectivity to oxygenated products (90 % including methyl hydroperoxide) and moderate selectivity to methanol (50 %) at mild reaction conditions (50°C) were achieved.…”
