Overview and Measurement of Mobility in DASH7

Abstract: Recently, the evolution of low-power wide area networks (LPWANs) provides Internet of Things (IoT) with an approach between the short range multi-hop technology and the long-range single-hop cellular network technology. LPWANs provide connectivity by using long-range communication with low data rate in unlicensed bands. They are developed to satisfy the requirements of IoT communication needs, but less attention is given to the mobility of the End-Devices (EDs). In this paper, we consider DASH7 which is a well… Show more

“…En relación al protocolo Dash7, su punto débil principal es su bajo alcance frente a otros protocolos. El alcance entre nodo y gateway es de 1 km, y puede extenderse hasta 2 km con el uso de un subcontrolador [9].…”

“…DASH7 supports star topologies with data rates of 13 kbps/16 channels, 50/8, and 166/4 [5]. Experiments show practical range of 900 m [17], which give DASH7 limited potential to patch coverage in rural scenarios. GoTenna adopts FSK and a proprietary Aspen Grove dissemination protocol to relay text messages and other low-rate data over multiple hops albeit with no guarantees on delay.…”

“…Messages from nodes to the sink are directly flooded. • D7AP networks consist of gateways and endpoints, and can optionally contain sub-controllers, thus also enabling tree topologies [10]. While gateways are permanently listening for packets, sub-controllers are allowed to sleep and are mainly used to relay packets.…”
