“…Our spatial analysis is supported by many studies that highlight important overlaps between ITs, community-conserved areas, or OECMs, and federal PAs for a variety of focal taxa. For example, evidence for the spatial importance of ITs, community-conserved areas, or OECMs through spatial co-occurrence analyses has been found for bats in the Amazonian basin (Fernandez-Llamazares et al, 2021), vertebrates in Brazil, Canada and Australia (Schuster et al, 2019), primates in the Neotropics (Estrada et al, 2022), jaguars in Latin America (Figel et al, 2011; Figel et al, 2022), and tropical forests in Latin America (Bray et al, 2008; Qin et al, 2022).
