“…9,25,34,38 -45 Seven studies were limited to postmenopausal women. 9,13,14,21,24,26,41 All other studies either reported on both premenopausal and postmenopausal women or did not report on the menopausal status of the included patients. One study reported on asymptomatic women only, 38 and 14 studies reported on symptomatic women only.…”

“…A further 13 articles 50 -62 were identified through examination of the reference lists of the known primary publications and review articles. After independent review of the 52 manuscripts, 11 articles (10 English 16,36,38,39,43,46,50,52,57,62 , one French 35 ) were considered to be eligible for inclusion in the review (Fig. 1).…”

“…The assessment of outcome data shows that in only two (18%) of the studies were the outpatient test results reported to be masked from the pathologist interpreting the reference standard. Thus two studies 36,46 (18%) were level I, a further two studies 35,43 (18%) were level III and seven studies 16,38,39,50,52,57,62 (64%) were level IV in quality.…”

“…These findings replicate other published studies which have demonstrated that age and menopausal status may be factors of importance for sample adequacy. 67,68 In the moderate-risk (premenopausal) women for whom insertion was possible, nulliparity was for both Tao brush and Pipelle samplers an important factor in the outcome 'inadequate sample' (p < 0.001 for both), in addition to its effect on insertion. These findings suggest that the use of Tao brush may be advantageous in the investigation of postmenopausal women, but not for moderate-risk women.…”

“…This reflects the rates reported in other clinical trials. 18,67 The present study also considered individual characteristics that may influence the performance of the two endometrial sampling methods. Nulliparity was strongly associated with failure of insertion, whereas for parous women, the vast majority, the failure rate was only 8%.…”
