Outcomes of Self-Expanding Covered Stents for the Treatment of External ILIAC Artery Obstructive Disease

Abstract: Purpose To describe the early results and mid-term patency rates of external iliac artery (EIA) stenting using self-expanding covered stents. Methods We conducted a multicenter retrospective study (2015–2021), including patients receiving primary endovascular treatment of external iliac artery occlusive disease with self-expanding covered stents. All patients were treated with the Viabahn (W.L Gore & Associates, Inc., Flagstaff, AZ–USA) stent. Patency … Show more

“…In both instances of stent graft occlusion observed in our study, the patients exhibited cardiovascular risk factors and impaired distal run-off. Additionally, one patient had a smaller device diameter of 6 mm, which had previously been demonstrated to be associated with a reduced primary patency [ 27 ]. The findings of our study, including technical and clinical success as well as patency, demonstrate the efficacy of endovascular strategies, particularly for patient populations with underlying health conditions or complex anatomy requiring minimally invasive treatment.…”

“…Во многом это связано с высокой встречаемостью критической ишемии конечности, техническими трудностями осуществления полноценного восстановления кровообращения и высоким риском развития осложнений, обусловленных ишемической болезнью сердца и нарушением мозгового кровообращения [1]. Перечисленные особенности МПАБ и вовлечение в патологический процесс сосудов различных бассейнов кровообращения определяют особые требования к реабилитации данной категории больных [2,3,4].…”

“…We read the work of Squizzato et al with great interest [ 1 ]. They reported a multicenter retrospective cohort of 93 patients with steno-occlusive lesions at the external iliac artery (EIA) treated using self-expandable covered stent (Viabahn, W.L Gore & Associates, Inc., Flagstaff, AZ-USA).…”
