Outcome analysis of coronary artery bypass grafting: minimally invasive versus standard techniques

Abstract: Minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting (MIDCAB) procedures are purported to result in improvements in patient management over standard techniques. A comparative study was performed on risk-stratified patients treated with either technique. Following institutional review board approval, a retrospective random chart review was conducted on 27 MIDCAB and 37 standard coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) patients who were operated on over a 12-month period at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.… Show more

“…With the progress of surgical technology, minimally invasive CABG technology has been dramatically developed in recent years and can achieve satisfactory results comparable to CABG via sternotomy in selected patients. [24][25][26] We performed a minimally invasive procedure to treat patients with single or double CAD complicated by a left lung tumor and achieved satisfactory results. The left fourth intercostal anterolateral mini-incision is generally used to perform the procedure.…”

“…This provides the surgeon with an unobstructed means of access to the coronary arteries and, with chemically induced cardioplegia, creates a flaccid heart. Positive outcomes with coronary surgical revascularization have made this technique the procedure of choice for many suffering from ischemic heart disease (1).…”
