Out-of-season spawning of cultured pikeperch [Sander lucioperca (L.)]

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of out‐of‐season spawning of cultivated pikeperch (fish that were reared from the larval stage in re‐circulating systems and fed commercial feed exclusively) stimulated hormonally with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). The impact of fish age (2+ and 3+) and hormone dosage [200 or 400 IU hCG kg−1 body weight (BW)] on spawning was analysed and expressed as the share of stripped females, commercial fecundity (% BW) and survival of embryos until the eyed‐e… Show more

“…The experimental material comprised juvenile European pikeperch obtained through artificial, out-of-season reproduction (Zakęś 2007). A sample of 240 fish with body weights from 0.80 to 2.00 g (Table 1) were chosen at random, and 40 fish were stocked into each of six circulation tanks with working volumes of 28 dm , respectively.…”

“…However, progress towards developing an efficient method in the pikeperch artificial reproduction and rearing have been observed. Hormonal and photoperiod-induced out-of-season maturation and spawning of the wild and domesticated pikeperch seem to be already elaborated (Zakęś 2007;Sarameh, Falahatkar, Takami & Efatpanah 2012;Żarski, Kucharczyk, Targoń ska, Paliń ska, Kupren, Fontaine & Kestemont 2012). Induction of chromosome set manipulations like triploidization and gynogenesis would be a step forward in production of valuable material for the pikeperch aquaculture (Rougeot, Minet, Prignon, Vanderplasschen, Detry, Pastoret & Melard 2003).…”
