“…Serum reaction to non -separated parasite antigens using a double dif fusion technique, an ELISA-test or a dot blot technique might be easier but less specific methods than the western blotting. Similar applications of the immunoblotting technique were reported from immuno-parasitology by Clark et al (1988), Dickerson et al (1989) and Buchmann et al (1991), from veterinary science by Canals and Gasbarre (1990) and from human immuno-par asitology by Pritchard et al (1990). Further purification and cloning of the antigen in Oncho cerca volvulus were even reported by Lobos et al (1991) to create a high sensitive ELISA-method for detection of infected individuals.…”

“…In cattle, the most extensively studied GI nematode, in regards to host immune responses, is Ostertagia ostertagi. Within 3-4 weeks of experimental infection (Canals and Gasbarre, 1990;Mansour et al, 1990), and 2 months of exposure to infected pastures (Gronvold et al, 1992;Gasbarre et al, 1993;Nansen et al, 1993) previously naive calves show significant rises in anti-Ostertagia antibodies in the peripheral circulation. These antibody responses have been detectable using a wide range of parasite derived antigens, and involve all major immunoglobulin isotypes.…”

“…The first enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test to quantify nematode infections in cattle was developed in 1981 (Keus et al), and since then, many in-house ELISAs have been developed for studies to quantify the infections and their related production losses (Kloosterman et al, 1984;Canals and Gasbarre, 1990;Dohoo et al, 1997;Eysker and Ploeger, 2000;Sanchez et al, 2001;Sithole et al, 2005b). More recently, Svanova (Svanova Veterinary Diagnostics, Uppsala, Sweden) developed a commercial ELISA (Svanovir ® ) available in Europe (Charlier et al, 2005a;Guiot et al, 2007;Forbes et al, 2008;Almería et al, 2009).…”
