Oscillatory Magnetoabsorption in InSb Under High Resolution

Abstract: Articles you may be interested inHigh resolution InSb quantum well ballistic nanosensors for room temperature applications AIP Conf.Polarized oscillatory magnetoabsorption spectra of exciton formation transitions in InSb have been measured under high resolution at liquid helium temperature. An un strained high-mobility sample 5 JI. thick and magnetic fields up to 39.1 kgauss were used. Diffraction grating dispersion for the region 3.7 <>-<6.0 JI. made possible a resolution of 1-7XlO-4 ev and the determination … Show more

“…4 indicates that the energy gap has a value close to 0.234 eV as compared to the value (0.2357±0.0005) eV deduced by extrapolation in the analysis of magnetoabsorption data. 18 The above interpretation leads us to expect a narrowing of the emission line with decreasing intensity of excitation. In fact, a narrowing by 1 meV was observed in a p-typz sample when the intensity of exciting light was reduced by a factor of 4.…”

“…Now one can obtain more precise band parameters from the interband magnetoabsorption spectra of these materials than those obtained previously by neglecting exciton energy shifts 1 ' 2 or by using theoretical estimates. 3 Excitons can be expected to add complications to the analysis of the polaron effects previously observed in the interband magnetoabsorption of InSb, 4 > 5 and a good knowledge of the role of excitons should contribute to the understanding of the polaron observations. The exciton problem in the interband magnetoabsorption of these materials is essentially that of a hydrogen atom in a high magnetic field, which is is a problem of long-standing theoretical interest.…”

“…1(b) show sizable absorption for photon energies significantly smaller than E G . 9 Also, d 14 is complex, indicating some sort of resonant behavior below the band gap. A possible explanation may lie in the consideration of excitonic effects which have recently been shown to be of importance for X (2) (CuCl).…”
