Oryzihumus leptocrescens gen. nov., sp. nov.

Abstract: Three novel strains were isolated from a soil sample collected in Japan using GPM agar plates supplemented with superoxide dismutase and/or catalase. The strains were Gram-positive, catalase-positive, irregular rod-shaped bacteria with meso-diaminopimelic acid as a peptidoglycan diagnostic diamino acid, and the acyl type of the peptidoglycan was acetyl. The major menaquinone was MK-8(H4). Mycolic acids were not detected. The G+C content of the DNA was 72–73 mol%. On the basis of morphological and chemotaxonomi… Show more

“…Table 1. Differential characteristics of strain HG667 T and meso-A 2 pm-containing members of the family Intrasporangiaceae Data for reference genera were taken from Jung et al (2006) (Kribbia), Martin et al (1997), Lang et al (2003) and Yoon et al (2004) (Janibacter), Groth et al (2002) (Knoellia), Kageyama et al (2005) (Oryzihumus), Lee (2006) (Phycicoccus) and Maszenan et al (2000) and Hanada et al (2002) The type strain, HG667 T (5MBIC07497 T 5DSM 18935 T ), was isolated from surface seawater collected at the Kesennuma ferry port in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.…”

“…The genera belonging to this family can be divided into three groups on the basis of the diagnostic diamino acid types in the cell-wall peptidoglycan: the LL-diaminopimelic acid (LL-A 2 pm) type, the meso-A 2 pm type and the L-ornithine type. The genera Janibacter (Martin et al, 1997), Knoellia (Groth et al, 2002), Kribbia (Jung et al, 2006), Oryzihumus (Kageyama et al, 2005), Phycicoccus (Lee, 2006) and Tetrasphaera (Maszenan et al, 2000) belong to the meso-A 2 pm group. The strain described in the present study, HG667 T , also contained meso-A 2 pm as the diagnostic diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan.…”

“…At the time of writing, the family comprised 15 recognized genera and has been divided into three groups on the basis of the diagnostic diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan: the first group has LL-diaminopimelic acid (LL-DAP) and contains six genera; the second group has L-ornithine and contains three genera; and the third group has meso-DAP and contains six genera [Janibacter (Martin et al, 1997), Tetrasphaera (Maszenan et al, 2000), Knoellia (Groth et al, 2002), Oryzihumus (Kageyama et al, 2005), Phycicoccus (Lee, 2006) and Kribbia (Jung et al, 2006)]. …”

“…Two novel strains within the family are described herein. Strain KV-663 T was isolated from the same soil sample from which strains of the recently described genus Oryzihumus (Kageyama et al, 2005) were obtained. In contrast, strain YM21-029 was isolated from a sediment sample collected in Japan by using HSV agar plates.…”
