We present mineralogic, isotopic and thermochronologic analyses on psammopelitic and tuffaceous levels from the Bermejo and Vinchina basins -both foreland depocentres of the Central Andes of Argentina -that define a low-temperature regime for the crust akin to a slab shallowing and flattening process. The contents of illite in illite/smectite interstratified (I/S) show a progressive illitization into the deeper parts of both basins. The distribution of I/S is compatible with theoretical simulations and predicted heat flow values of ca. 26 mW m À2 in the 8-3.4 Ma interval for the Vinchina Basin and ca. 42 mW m À2 since 9 Ma for the Bermejo Basin. The latter shows heat flow values that are comparable to those reported by magnetotelluric analysis (36-40 mW m À2 ) in agreement with previously published heat flow calculations along the modern Andean foreland. The Rb-Sr isochrones in psammopelites (<2 lm fractions) show ages between 125 and 165 Ma, whereas the K-Ar ages decrease as the grain size is smaller (136-224 Ma for 1-2 lm, 112-159 Ma for 0.2-1 lm, 76-116 Ma for <0.2 l and 39.3-42 Ma for <0.1 lm). These ages are significantly older than the sedimentation in the basins (ca. 16 Ma for the Vinchina Basin; U-Pb age), and can be explained by the presence of a significant amount of detrital components, mainly illite, even in the finer fractions. The preservation of detrital ages is consistent with the shallow diagenesis related to a low-temperature regime, proposed here for the basins. Younger K-Ar ages (21.3-12 Ma) were obtained for a basal tuffaceous level. Clay mineralogy and R0 ordering in the deepest part of the Vinchina Basin, together with the evolution model of I/S with depth, suggest that the burial temperatures would have not exceeded ca. 100°C in agreement with (U-Th)/He analyses performed on apatite extracted from two tuffaceous units. Thermal indicators from both studied basins confirm the existence of a low-temperature regime during flat subduction.

Reservoir-forming age and its exploration significance to stratigraphic reservoirs in southern Songliao Basin

Despite many studies concerning the forming age, evolution characteristics and the age of petroleum charging in the Fuxin upheaval of southern Songliao Basin, no consensus has been reached so far. This paper presents the first K-Ar dating of autogenetic illite from stratigraphic petroleum reservoirs in the Fuyu oil layer of the Fuxin upheaval belt. Isotopic test and age calculation were carried out based on the separation and purification of illite mineral, X-diffraction analysis and the detection of scanning electron microscopy. The evolution characteristics of structure, sedimentation, reservoir-forming about the Fuxin upheaval belt were interpreted in terms of the synthetical analysis of "six-type geological history" evolution in southern Songliao Basin. The geologic background of petroleum evolution and reservoir formation are similar in the entire central depression region of southern Songliao Basin. The Changling sag and the Fuxin upheaval belt brought about obvious upheaval-sag separation after the hydrocarbon-generation peak of K 2 qn 1 and the main reservoir-forming period of the Fuyu oil layer, namely reservoir-forming happened before the Fuxin upheaval belt extensively raised. The reservoirs have three characteristics: the hydrocarbon source rock above the reservoir, the oil source in the locality, and the vertical migration. The geological cognition is corrected, that is, oil source came from the Changling sag and migrated from the side direction. The bulk process of petroleum charging in the stratigraphic hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Fuxin upheaval belt of southern Songliao Basin is determined according to the isotopic age of autogenetic illite in combination with the method of fluid inclusions. The cognition is helpful to exactly evaluate the resource potential and exploration direction in the Fuxin upheaval belt, Changling sag and their peripheral areas. The present results indicate that the combination of the two methods (the K-Ar dating of autogenetic illite and fluid inclusions) is an effective way to lay bare petroleum charging history and ascertain reservoir age.

Resumo A Formação Irati (Permiano), constituída por uma seqüência de folhelhos negros e rochas carbonáticas, é intrudida por rochas básicas pós-Triássicas. Em Perolândia (GO), a pedreira SUCAL exibe uma soleira de no máximo treze metros encaixada na Formação Irati. Para investigar as alterações minerais provocadas pelo calor da soleira, amostras das rochas encaixantes, a diferentes distâncias da intrusão, foram analisadas por difração de raios X, microssonda eletrônica e microscopia eletrônica de varredura. Os resultados mostraram que os pelitos e rochas carbonáticas não afetados pelo calor da soleira são formados por saponita e dolomita respectivamente. Próximo à soleira formou-se talco, serpentina, piroxênio, calcita e plagioclásio. A partir do aparecimento dos três primeiros minerais, considerados minerais índices, foram identificadas as seguintes zonas de metamorfismo: Zona do Talco, Zona da Serpentina e Zona do Piroxênio, distribuídas de forma heterogênea acima e abaixo da intrusão. O confinamento de fluido aquoso na porção subjacente à intrusão favoreceu a formação de minerais hidratados (talco, serpentina), enquanto seu escape na porção superior possibilitou a formação de piroxênio e plagioclásio. O talco, a serpentina e a calcita formaram-se a partir da reação de dolomita com quartzo e fluido aquoso. O piroxênio e o plagioclásio são o produto da reação da saponita com quartzo e calcita. A temperatura máxima atingida nas zonas do talco e da serpentina não está clara, visto que os minerais índices são estáveis desde temperaturas ambientes a até 400-600ºC. Para a Zona do Piroxênio, a temperatura mínima para formação do piroxênio estaria em torno de 300-500ºC.Palavras-chave: Formação Irati, metamorfismo de contato, saponita, talco, piroxênio.Abstract Contact metamorphism in the Permian Irati Formation, north part of Paraná Basin (Brazil). The Permian Irati Formation is a black shale-carbonate sequence that is intruded by Jurassic-Cretaceous basic rocks. In Goiás State, near Perolândia town, the SUCAL quarry exposes the Irati Formation with a diabase sill, less than thirteen meters thick. To investigate the mineral modifications caused by the heat of the sill, pelites and carbonate rocks were studied through X rays diffraction, electronic microprobe and scanning electronic microscopy. The results show that the pelites and carbonate rocks without sill influence are constituted by saponite and dolomite respectively. Near the sill talc, serpentine, pyroxene, calcite and plagioclase were formed. The first three minerals are considered index minerals and named the metamorphic zones: Talc Zone, Serpentine Zone and Pyroxene Zone that are heterogeneously distributed below and above the sill. The confinement of aqueous fluid below the intrusion favour the formation of hydrated minerals (talc, serpentine), but the fluid escape above the sill allowed the formation of pyroxene and plagioclase.
